I love the way that they write the songs so full of metaphores, although the band wrote the song about one thing (i think breakup of blink) fans can interpret it anyway they want in all of their songs, but especially this one.. genius, very good song

i agree with always_4eva_now, although great, its not living up to the hype tom gave it. but it sounds like a littl bit of the untitled blink album i know this is apparent, but if you just kinda think of what it would be like to combine +44 and AVA, it sounds like the untitled album but as i said, its apparent

“The ash set in then blew away, it's getting lost into the sea.” The sea is a metaphor for the vastness of the world, inevitably ever-changing, and open for exploration. Blink 182 was fleeting against such a force. “I grew so close to all the thoughts I had to leave forever,” As years passed, the desire to move onward, mature, and stretch creatively became more apparent. What started as a small desire grew. “I left the chill and voice of screams and kids and ran for shelter.” The breakup was not easy. He ran from Blink 182, unable to stand anymore what it represented, least of all the kids. “You know I won't say sorry…” He has no regrets. He realizes that his former bandmates (perhaps even fans) are hurt, but he had no choice. “The pain has a bad reaction, A blend of fear and passion.” It is a painful thing to do… he approaches this move with both apprehension and real desire for something big. “You know what it's like to believe, it makes me want to scream.” To his former bandmates, they should understand… that urge to make something important and big… so much you can’t stand it. “I see a glow from far away, a faint reflection on the sea.” He is now leaving the shore, and in the distance he sees his past… “I left some words quite far from here to be a short reminder,” That past is quite distant from him now… he leaves it there but it is not far from his memory. “I laid them out in stone in case they need to last forever.” That record of the past, of Blink-182, is etched permanently… in its recordings. They may never go away. “I see the stars, they're in your eyes. A playful kiss, can you tell I'm excited?” Now, my dear fans, I know that you have passion. My music is my expression of love… I am giddy with excitement. “A fast escape in the nick of time,” We left the past behind just before it was to crumple. “if you lost your wish, can I help you find it?” Perhaps you (the fan) are disappointed, and feel a sense of loss. Please give me a chance. “I'm on my knee, just one to start, a fresh new start, don't be undecided.” I’m asking you to give me a new chance. Please stay with me. “If loves a word that you say, then say it I will listen” My fans, if “love” is something in your vocabulary, that you experience… then please tell me: “Tom, I will listen.” (or alternatively) If you are a person of passion, then please tell me that you will listen to my music and give me this chance.

This is a great song, my favorite on the album next to the gift. I can agree with what's been said, and I'll admit that I'm pretty bummed that blink broke up considering they're one of the bands I probably would not have survived high school without. I can also agree with the maturity over the years, yeah the immature stuff made blink 182 an awesome band, it was just funny and everything and just a relapse from reality if you will, but the mature stuff has the same "feel good" vibe the blink stuff has. I'll say that tom's voice has gotten a lot better since cds such as dude ranch and before that album. The old stuff is a little more punk, and they obviously moved into alt pop over the years but still had that awesome vibe. Tom's voice was a little more scratchy sorta, it was good just different. Now the voice is really smooth sounding in comparison which isnt a bad thing. Just my thoughts pouring out of me lol 1 2 Next

I personally think this song is about Blink breaking up and the formation of AVA The ash set in, then blew away. It’s getting lost into the sea. (After their breakup, they must have harbored bitter feelings and resentment towards each other, but eventually they passed and will forget about it) I grew so close to all the thoughts I had; to leave forever. (He got to used to playing and writing for Blink but then had to leave all that behind and start something completey new and change his writing and singing style) I left the chill and voice, the screams in kids, and ran for shelter. (He left all the popularity, fame, and love from his fans to start something that people might not like. He was taking a big leap he in a sense 'hid' himself away from his past and focused on his future) You know I wont say sorry. Do you know I wont say sorry? (He did what he had to do and he has no regrets about what he did. He almost holds himself in higher regards than mark and travis, because he's saying that he wont be the first to apologize and that he knows what he did is right.) The pain has a bad reaction, A blend of fear and passion. (A crucial line right here, he's saying that he feels pain for leaving something that was so successful and so right, but that pain might not be well founded. He is torn between fear and passion, and that's why he feels pain. He's afraid of starting something so new and different, something he's not used so. But also, he has conviction that what he's doing is right, and that it needs to be done. He has a new passion for creating a new kind of music, and that conflict of fear and devotion is what is causing this pain.) Do you know what it's like to believe? It makes me wanna scream. (He's almost asking mark and travis if they even felt the kind of dedication and closeness to their music as tom feels right now about his music. He is on to greater and better things, but he's still torn between many emotions as he's making this change in his life: fear, passion, conviction, anger, confusion, understanding. All he's trying to do is find the truth, but it might take him awhile to find it.) Well, that's my two cents.

Oh my bad, this is the different version of the song. I prefer the other one, except for the beginning intro.
