| I think the protagonist is in a relationship, yet tempted by someone else. They actually end up cheating on their partner, but once its all over, they realise what they've done, and he wants to go back to his partener. The packing is an extended metaphor for getting up and leaving, getting away from the place, i.e., getting away from his partner and going somehwere new, i.e. going to a new partner/going to cheat. However, the memories of the old partener keep haunting him, and all through the song he's trying to forget her, but cant. The last verse is a way of trying to get his ex back, or trying to make up for cheating on her by buying all these things. His conscience is spoken about, because he feels bad for what he's doing. | |
