| I was watching a football match and upon the goalkeeper putting his body on the line to stop a goal and succeeding in doing so, the commentator says "fortune favours the brave". I shouldn't have mixed up "rich" with "fortune". Ah well, hopefully this is a better explanation. | |

| "Oh, if fortune favours the brave I am as poor as they come" I think the two lines suggest that people who are brave tend to be richer than those who aren't. The person then uses this to imply that he/she is far from brave by suggesting that there is no poorer person. | |
