| River Wolf is totally right. I think, though, that the narrator had come, in thinking, to the belief of nihilism. Questioning whether life had any meaning would, of course, be very depressing. This led the narrator to start heavy alcohol drinking. Then the line "If I try real hard I'll see right through them" shows that the person'd gotten past his/her feelings of nihilism and resumed normal life. | |
