| i also think this song has something to do with marketing in the music industry, and how it's sad/awful that singers/groups sell out ["it was punk, yeah it was perfect, now its awful"], and are just into singing for the money ["And they royalty rate all the girls like you, And they sell it out to the girls like you "], and how the industry is trying to get young girls who dont know any better ["oh just shut up, you're only sixteen]. | "sweet cherry" equals sweet young virgins with sheltered lives and awful taste in music "They know how to break all the girls like you And they rob the souls of the girls like you" sounds like it's about the music industry marketing terrible music at the young and naieve "He's drunk, he tastes Like candy, he's so beautiful He's so deep like dirty water God, he's awful" This sounds like it's about Kurt, I don't know of any other teen idols that she's dated, and naieve young teeny boppers worshipping him and thinking he's beautiful, and really deep but really he's... Kurt. lol. "And they royalty rate all the girls like you And they sell it out to the girls like you To incorporate little girls" This is about bands selling out to appeal to a wider audience; a younger, more niaeve audience "You're ripe for the picking, it's so awful You've got your youth Don't waste your money Yeah it's awful " I believe this is her advising the sweet cherries to realise that they listen to rubbish and not waste their money on awful music "I was punk! Now I'm just stupid! I'm so awful" This does sound like it's about Hole selling out... Their music on this album is definetly more radio friendly. "If the world is so wrong Yeah you can break them all With one song If the world is so wrong yeah you can take it all With one song " This is clearly about the influence music has on people. "They bought it all, just build a new one, Make it beautiful...yeah" This seems to be about Courtney's idealisim that bands should break away from the current way of selling music and stuff and do it their own way where bands own their own music etc | |
