I analyized this song a few years back in my grade 11 english class. Basically everything I concluded has already been stated. Circle of life is seen through the roots, trees and mantle. The song focuses more on death however, which is apparent in the title. One section that just baffles me is, "White as the down of flaking snow, the heroic emblems of life." If I ever figure out what that means then my life will be complete. The concept that you and the earth are made up of the same substance is what I enjoy most... aside from the guitar solo which I find pleasing as well.

taking a wild guess at this he's saying that he was born from the substances of the earth, and that his life cycle started at the start of winter (December) and ended at the start of spring (when the grass and flowers start to regrow), and as they die they go back to being substances of the earth

Sonically, this song is just like two beautiful flowers in a bleak, harsh winter landscape. Two beautiful solos surrounded by bleak, harsh music.

Mmmm... Wish I'd been into In Flames back when I was still in high school... I ended up analysing Nirvana, I think... White = Purity, so the colour white could also represent the purity of nature? Just an afterthought to all this hardcore analysis...

i always though of this song as sort of being traditional in flames...the lines you are the artist of the texture that plays with the mantle of the earth is about how what we do defines what happens to the earth, and in flames is trying to change it for better in the last verse, but im not sure

i think that i'm with the whole cycle of nature thing, and i'm with 6th sadistic sniper on the snow. i believe that the it has just come to winter in the narrator's life, and he's probably gazing out the window on a miserable day, reflecting on the bleakness of existance and how the cycle of nature continues. ...life and death...

Regardless of what it's about, this one of the most kickass metal songs of all time.

Just Saw InFlames live for the first time last night ... i dont know if i've ever seen men so majestic in my life ... They were like Kings.. i was right in front .. i wish you all could have seen them. Regarding Drav's post ... i remember Grade 11 english .. we were taught that white represented purity. Heriosm and emblems may have something to do with virtues and moral codes. if you tie this in with the concept of 'purity' then one may conclude that this verse may stress the importance of living a 'moral' or 'heroic' life in the service and aid of others. Maybe the character in the song regrets not having lived this way as he dies since the song hints at mortality.
