Play it 8 times (I think) and then start playing softer, thus fading out.
Or else, you (and your band?) can come up with your own personal ending.

When I first read the lyrics to this song I thought it was about love. I feel the same way as the lyrics sometimes. Anyways, this is one of my favourite In Flames songs.

I think it's quite simply about a man who's with somebody that he finds difficult to love, but he stays with her out of convenience. And the song is basically his admission to the girl that he's an asshole and that he can't really love the girl, because he can't keep up with her irrational emotions (her "insanity"). But he will act like he loves her, act like he has "the infection", which he feels is a sign of weakness. I think that he isn't able to get out of the relationship because he's too apathetic to break up with the girl, and yet too tired to actively stay in love, hence "I accept my fate".

Anders self said this is about love, but i strongly disagree: This song (to me, bla bla) is clearly about drugs

I blame the needs that you feed 'cause selfish eyes would not see" Her need is to be happy and she feeds it by seeing other people but he sees this with selfish eyes and gets jealous of her and the other people/persons' relationship.

I completely agree with Razer666 about the polar relationship, that hits home on so many levels! When your significant other is depressed and they rely heavily on you its like they suck up all your happiness and fill you full of all the shit that is making them depressed, and the guilt at seeing other people make them happy is so suffocating and shattering and leads to massive feelings of low self-esteem and low self-worth. 'I wont allow any happiness'.. this sounds like the narrator becoming jealous of his girlfriend and other guys cause they can so effortlessly make her happy and this hurts him so he stops her from seeing them......... This is most definetly about love (i am in this position now, hence the large post)

I'm not sure about this song, but to me it always seemed to be about utter, unyielding, possibly self-destructive defiance.

this song is definetely about love and a relationship, through and through. even the chorus is about love: "sell me the infection, it's only for the weak." people read way too much into the only for the weak part. This is basically about acknowledging that he is weak and deserves to be called and treated like he is weak. "no need for sympathy, the misery that is me" the meaning is: the weak do not deserve sympathy, and weak as I am, I do not deserve sympathy. 1 2 Next

i think it has something to do with being behind or losing...it talks about falling behind.. and tranquil means being undisturbed or left alone... the tranquil pride that becomes the lie.. i dont know, i believe it has more than one meaning...

To me it sounds like he's gotten himself into a situation (maybe a relationship) and he can't get out of it, but he feels bad, because he feels obligated to do what he's doing. Or, maybe something really bad happened to him and he's pretending to be ok and people are trying to pity him, but he doesn't want it. I also liked the reference to love.

I think its about someone who has to accept punishment and/or consequences for his actions. On bleeding knees, I accept my fate

Listening to a version of the song where the parts in quotation marks have been left out, I felt that the is maybe not only against pity for himself, but against pity in general. The "infection" would then be the pity you feel for someone, which might really be kind of infecting. He feels "forced to have any regret". Then, saying that he has become "the lie, beautiful and free" in his "righteous mind" he might point at the distance that he has to all the things he should actually feel pity for. - "Far away" he hides and "the truth", the misery, is "locked away". He calls himself a "bitter man", that is, he is without any feelings. The last verse then reveals that it was pride which became the lie - maybe he felt too proud to have any pity? His bitterness propably also corresponds to his inability "to paint the coulds". Finally, there is the "you" which might indeed be his girlfriend. He fells drowned and later drained, a nice contrast. Indeed, there is also the contrast of "happiness" and "sadness", neither of which is tolerated. The "drowning" goes along with the "sandness", so maybe the "draining" goes along with the "happiness" - a picture which fits quite nicely, because of the wet tears which are 'drained'. On the one hand, he feels disturbed by the pity of the person this song speaks to and on the other hand he feels disturbed by the happiness, the cheering up, which makes him feel "guilty". "Everytime you run, I fall behind" - he is unable to follow the happiness of the person he speaks to. The "slow-motion dark day" brings to me the idea of a depression: unable to enjoy life, he has "lost the ability to paint the clouds". And he feels even worse being encouraged.

I think this song is about love but also has drug habits entwined into it. I think it's about a relationship he's stuck in - "I can't tolerate your sadness, cause it's me you're drowning" as if he's being engulfed in something he can't get out of, the word 'you're', I feel also shows it'something to do with a relationship. "I won't allow any happiness 'cause everytime you laugh, I feel so guilty "I blame the needs that you feed 'cause selfish eyes would not see" This bit I think makes it clear he hates the relationship and hates seeing his partner happy and wants to get out of it, but feels abliged to stay for whatever reason. However, knowing that he COULD end the relationship if he really wanted to, but he just doesn't, makes him realise he knows he's weak not to - " Sell me the infection, it's only for the weak No need for sympathy, the misery that is me No need for sympathy, it's only for the weak On bleeding knees I accept my fate" And because he can't end it, it's become like an infection and cause he doesn't have the mental power to end it, he knows he has to accept his fate and all the pain that comes with it. My favourite In Flames song! :-)

i can actually see what he means by "love" "I can't tolerate your sadness cause it's me you're drowning I won't allow any happiness 'cause everytime you laugh, I feel so guilty" its a very polar relationship, whenever one is sad, the other feels like they are drowned by it, then ever one is happy, it kills the other to see it Am I forced to have any regret? I've become the lie, beautiful and free In my righteous own mind I adore and preach the insanity you gave He feels that he shouldnt be forced to regret how he feels an because he feels like its a faux relationship, he things its just a beutiful lie. But in his head he adores everything about it but wont say but thats all i can grab for the love meaning, after the chorus its like clouded, maybe the infection could be love an he is saying love is for the weak/makes people weak. Personally i think its about some guy who has came in second place and doesnt want any pity from the winner or consolations, he just wants to be left alone Sell me the infection, it's only for the weak No need for sympathy, the misery that is me No need for sympathy, it's only for the weak On bleeding knees I accept my fate the infection = second place only for the weak - the loser/runner up bleeding - sign of defeat in most cases knees - possition of mercy (i.e he is on his knees, very vunerable) i accept my fate - he accepts what he is but nemuu could have a point on drugs, really its jus to hard to nail this song down to one meaning, i go with the winner/loser relationship
