Second Chorus Riff:
G|----------------------------------|
D|----------------------------------|
A|-/888-888-888-888-444-444-444-444-|
D|----------------------------------|

D|-----------------------------------|
A|-------------------------466644444-|
D|-666-666-666-666-3333333-----------|

Third Chorus Riff:
*Note: Dirk Lance uses a 5-string (BEADG), and it sounds like
he hits a low D-flat here, so if you're poor like me and only
have 4 strings, there are several ways to adapt. You could
tune your low string to D-flat (making it super loose and floppy!),
or do one of the two methods I've shown below.
G|----------------------------------|
D|(One Way)--------(Another)--------|
A|-------466644444--------4---44444-|
D|-663333 ----------663333-111------|

Play either three times and then play:

G|--------------|
D|--------------|
A|---2-222222-2-|
D|--------------|

Interlude:
G|----------------------|
D|----------------------|
A|----------------------|
D|-333333/8,10,10,10-66-|
(Commas used to indicate 10th fret, not open and 1st.)

This is the only incubus song where i think the meaning is ambiguious. i think this song is about someone changing, everyone changing actually and everything. he refuses to conform to it so he just shuts his eyes. But then the title is misleading. "Under my umbrella" presents safety to me, but how are you safe when everyones changing? Oh i see! he's blocking everything out. right, got it.

This is by far one of the best songs on Morning View and it's a perfect example of why i love incubus so much. They put so much depth and feeling into their songs that you can interpretate them anyway you want.

best incubus song by FAR on morning view...brandon's voice is amazing on it..sounds more like old school incubus..its about not living for anyone buy you..kinda selfish, but the way it has to be.

This song is much like many other Incubus songs in that it has the message of seeing things through your own eyes, and not others. Do what you want, not what society and others tell you to do.

i think its about..perspective.. its about how we chose to see things and the way we decide to respond.. we dont have to do the same things..or act the same way.. its about how right its to be wrong...and how wrong its to be politicly correct.. its okay to be "different"..its good to be unique.

Ok first off.. this song needs to be WRITTEN correctly before it can be interpreted so. "These eyes are not your eyes, these eyes are not the color that, your arid eyes might be, no, i was not around when those eyes of yours decided so, i refuse to kneel before the sights you choose to see".. this song is as blantent as i possibly can be.. think about it.. how many times have you closed your eyes and wished a feeling would just go away?...it keeps playing back in his mind in his "dark-seat" he has comfort.. chaos is merely whats remaining outside of his head.. the "aisles".. The arid eyes he refuses to deal with are those of an idealistic partner who sees fit that they must be deemed the higher power in the relationship.. he refuses to be the love slave so in other words.. hed rather be blind.

beautiful song that danced with my previous realisation that just because people had believed in a god and a particular set of rules for 2000 years, I didnt have to look at the world the way they were telling me to look at it. I dont have to be goverened by other peoples self righteous judgement and scrutiny whether a religion, a moral, a social construct - people are afraid to define a world of their own they have to pick one of the available religions, clans, logic and emotional constructs. This song and redefine have the best lyrics out of the whle shebang. 1 2 Next
