| This song is very straighforward and obvious in meaning: Make Yourself- Build yourself from scratch, create yourself, don't let others make you, don't let others tell you how to dress, don't let others tell you how to live, because if you let them make you they won't give you a chance to back out- they'll go right ahead and fuck you up as much as they want to. They'll make you the way they want you to be, which isn't good for you- they'll make you papier mache, weak, easily broken, fake. Whereas if you make yourself, you're real, you're pure, you're the original stuff coming from your mind, and you won't be papier mache, you'll be as strong and defiant as can be. Make yourself. Make your style. Make your hairdo. Make your image. Make your personality. Be original. Be an individual. Don't ever be like someone else. Don't ever, ever be something which already existed before. That's my interpretation of the song- that's what I've learnt from it, and that's what I'm constantly living up to. Thanks, Brandon... your lyrics are really hearfelt and inspiring to me. | |

| In my opinion this song is as straight forward as can be, no metaphores or analogys to sift through. Just fucking be yourself people, i'm sick of seeing these kids running around dressing how the people they see on tv tell them to... then throwing their asses off buildings or resorting to drugs because their life has no meaning. | Brandon is an amzing song writer, such intense wisdom goes into his work. Mike, Dirk, Jose, and Kilmore are also extremely talented. This has to be by far, the best band out there. This song to me means, like most of you have already acknowlaged... Don't lets other mold you. You must become your own person, and if you fuck up... it is your own misfortune ((Fuck me in my own way.)) Amazing song, especially live. Cheers! | |

| Letting others be your main source of inspiration for your ideas only weakens you. This, in my opinion, is kind of hard. Since, all that we are is based on all that we see, smell and hear. | i love this song, and i think every incubus song is amazing, musically and poetically. this song is so true, and if everyone could listen to it, and understand it, so many more people would be enlightened. the way the message is put across however, makes the song. for example: " and if i f*** me, i'll f*** me in my own way!" only incubus could write a song like this, and make it so beautiful. and incubus is just as beautiful as their songs, i got a chance to meet them, and although it was short, it was sweet. people often say stars/musicians are down to earth, but they don't get more down to earth than incubus. | |
