I think it is also a song about not being able to deal with the "games" that people play, and welcoming death as the only way to set yourself free. Quality song.

Life is a hard pill to swallow, and the way people treat each other doesn't make it any easier. I think this is what Brandon is expressing.

Do you know the actual story? I read it in an issue of kerrang! Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin. Brandon had come back from tour to find out that his girlfriend of 7 years had been cheating on him and that both grandmas and a close friend had died. He was in a book shop when he saw a picture of a guy who had spontaneously combusted and he thought that his problems were nothing compared to this guy's. He wrote the lyric "Pardon Me while i burst into flames" on his hand right there. The End

When I heard this song, I was awed at how well Incubus captured not only the feelings expressed in the song, but my personal feelings as well. It's not easy being a misanthrope. As soon as the song ended, I knew that if I ever got my book published (it's about a guy who deals with a lot of the crap that this song is speaking about and is known as the phoenix) that I was going to do everything I could for this to be on the soundtrack. This song is a perfect representation of teenage angst and adult frustration. It moves me... On a technical note, I prefer the acoustic version, but I can't find it on CD anywhere...

The song is quite amazing. It's mechanics flow well and lyrically, it's great. To me the songs seems to be about ignorance. I mean, you can only tolerate so much...
