A wonderful Incubus song. I agree with creedude... But than again, couldn't everything be about drugs? That's a thinker.

This is my favorite Incubus song and I've never really know what it's about. I always got this weird impression it was about drugs but I don't know...

It's clearly about how sick he is about religions being sold to him and the social pressures of going towards one. It's about finding out things on your own and not listening to organized religions just because everyone else is doing it. Can't believe nobody's said this yet for the most part. I always thought the thing about the red cloth was a reference to a pastor or some sort of higher up clergyman. 1 2 Next

it seems to be about what a few people already said -- anti-conformity. to me it has a more specific meaning in that it's talking about all the advertisement thrown in our faces by marketing 'geniuses.' in particular the lyrics: "in comes mental piracy..." and "i wish they all would stop trying." advertisements make use of various psychological 'tricks' in order to get people to think they really need a product. this practice definitely touches the line of business ethics if not jumping clear over it...kinda like propaganda, it's "mental piracy."

It's about anti-conformity. People will try to tell you how to think, try to sell you on their own ideals, but all you need is to be able to think for yourself...make yourself, if you will. I love this whole album.

It seems to be about freedom... from the world, and the freedom to think for yourself (mental piracy is a violation of this right.)

The beginning just has to make you smile. His voice sounds so calming yet you know the song will be powerful. Amazing. Brandons lyrics just cannot be beaten.
