I think Turn On The Bright Lights is a good album. But I still think Antics is miles better, even so. But this is the only song on Antics I don't like, I really don't know why so don't ask...it just seems to annoy me...

i love to play this song when i'm driving to the city. :) his voice is sooooo beautiful in this song. you can really hear the change in it from the previous album. and it's a lot like their old material. which i adore.

this song is about moving to a different level of the ralationship? they leave the town, something small, cute and innocent and move into the big town with all it's complications, dangers, traffic :) (basically all that big cities have to offer). Great lyrics that.

I believe this song is about one's excpectations for the future and the desire to do great things and find better places or people. I don't think its about relationships at all, just someone asking someone else to embrace and take on the future with them.

I think that the song is about getting someone out of a funk that's enclosed them kinda like a small town and out into the big world. The singer is showing them that there's more to this world and offering them something "instead of tying on a tight one tonight," which to me always seemed like a reference to suicide. Like a noose. "We'll make this place a heart to be a part of, again" meaning life/the world. 1 2 Next

Great song to start an album - it reminds me of a late evening night with the friends, drinking beer and looking at the stars!

frozen in fire i think totally opposite from you. Cause i prefer TOtbl, and next exit is my fave song on antics. The reason i love this song so much cause it sounds totally different from totbl. This song also has a phil spector/ronnetes vibe to it.

I've always felt like the song is about a confrontation, the ending of a relationship to begin something new. The allusions to fighting and arguments (building up steam) show that something is wrong and that this has probably happened many times before. The title "Next Exit" refers to an exit on a highway as a symbol of a time to go in a new direction towards a new place (i.e. the city.) Gonna trek this shit around We'll make this place a heart To be a part of again This alludes to the sadness and the unpleasant part of breaking up in order to be able to move on to something new and be able to look back without bitterness.
