oh, god...everytime i hear this song it gets better! (and i've probably heard it over 20 times now). what i hate is deciding which part to make my msn screenname...right now it's the "why can't we just look the other way why can't we just play the other game" part...but i just don't know... ;)

to me, it seems like two things in this song jump out at me....the setting of the beach (Feeling real tan, Yea maybe to the beach, The faces in the sand) and the instance of the "trial". i think its a song about something that happened on the beach, and how he was set up to look like he did it: (Leave some shards under the belly, Lay some grease inside my hand) and about the trial (It's a sentimental jury, It took a life span with no cellmate , But, hey, who's on trial?) and how she could have testified against him and now she's "evil": (tell them how your pleasures set up on slow release). maybe, i don't know, just trying to piece another thing together.

noisetothetape loses. "Evil" is such an awesome song, no joke. The similarities to "The Stranger," now that I think about them, are eerie, but it always just struck me as one of Interpol's typical love songs. mca1lyric, you DO realize how off noisetothetape's lyrics were, right?

REAL MEANING>>>you guys are all wrong...they were on KROQ RADIOSTATION (becuz the songs confusing) and they asked them about what this song meant and they said something like its about..>>>A man whose in love with two women and he's playing them both>> When your friends say "you come crying" But, hey, who's on trial?

Err... noisetothetape.. Those lyrics are even more off than the ones originally posted. The ones badrxs7 posted are the correct ones.

Rosemary heaven restores you in life you're coming with me through the aging the fear and the strife it's the smiling on the package it's the faces in the sand it's the thought that moves you upwards embracing me with two hands right will take you places yeah maybe to the beach when your friends say you come crying tell them now your pleasure's set upon slow release they wait they smile sensitive to fake nods right on but hey who's on trial? you took a lifespan with no cellmate a long way back saying "Me, why can't we look the other way?" he speaks about travel yeah we think about the land we are smart like all peoples feeling real tan i could take you places but you need a new man? wipe the pollen from the faces make me vision to a dream while you wait in the van anyway they smile sensitive to fake nods but hey who's on trial? it took a lifespan with no cellmate but a long way back saying "Me, why can't we look the other way?" you're weightless you are exotic you need something for which to care saying "Me, why can't we look the other way?" leave some shards under the belly lay some grease inside my hand it's a sentimental jury and the makings of a good plan you've come to love me like me yeah you've come to hold me tight is this motion everlasting or do shudders pass in the night? Rosemary our heaven restores you in life I've spent a lifespan with no cellmate a long way back saying "Me, why can't we look the other way?" you're weightless semi-erotic you need someone to take you there saying "Me, why can't we look the other way? Why can't we just play the other game? Why can't we just look the other way?" [those are the correct lyrics, enjoy.]

I read somewhere that the song was about surviving a tragedy and that the video was supposed to emphasize this.
