| I like Tom-o's interpretation, I think the song is about Blake just feeling really different from everybody or from the scene or whatever. I think I remember Blake saying the song is about his cat, but I'm pretty sure that he was not serious. The movie is awesome too. | |

| It's about apathy. Taking everything at face value and disregarding the results. "Going to sleep and waking up old" That's what someone who doesn't care would do. Wasting time. Believing the candle is blue because some one told you. The blindness is apathy. "I'm tired of fighting" could be taken as I don't want to deal with having a personal opinion anymore. Picaresque apathy man. Good song. | |

| I'd love to give Blake a dictionary and say "oi, rewrite it" he goes so much deeper than words, the guy really is in a league of his own... He could make an amazing song out of anything | |

| maybe it does refer to the movie. i saw it a long time ago, but don't remember much something weird that pops up...i live in pasadena, ca, where the lead singer is from. whenever i drove through traffic in the morning, to get downtown, by the time i see the sign for "chinatown," this song is playing. probably just a coincidence, but just kind of cool nonetheless. | |

| I just watched "Betrayed" - that Debra Winger movie. And at the moment, for me, this song is one of those "this is how we're different; this is why i'm here" kinds of songs. i see it as ant-racist; anti-white-supremacist. "i'm a question...answer...wrong" line, would then be about hope; he's tired of fighting, unlike the people he's singing to, who fight minority infringement. But then Lundt is not a minority name as far as i can see. Still, back-water white supremacists do go out hunting for black folk, which could be what he's hinting at in verse 3. though on another site, i saw that "Harry Lundt" was the 1st pitcher to kill a man with a fastball. I couldn't confirm that online. I still think it's about laying the guns down. | |

| If the song's about apathy and believing what you're told then the bit where he says 'I'm Chinatown' is probably a reference to the residents of Chinatown in the film being told/denied truth - 'I believe what the population believes'. | |

| I just did a report in a comp. class about these lyrics. It was off the wall, but my thesis stated that his meaning behind Chinatown could have been historical. The Chinatowns during the late nineteenth century to early twentieth century were barren, removed locations as the chinese were shunned. One instance of a settlement was even charted in a subterrainian cavern. Anyway, my thought was that he felt alone. Just as the immigrants. Probably a long shot but I suppose multiple interpretations are alright. Jim "Catfish" Hunter was a baseball pitcher for the Oakland Atheletics in the seventies. | |

| the intro to this song is amazing - even if im not in the mood for slower songs, i'm always hooked from those first few seconds! stand out lines for me are "i am a question, knowing my answer, i hope i'm wrong. i know the answer, it's 4 in the morning, i'm right again. i'm chinatown". i don't totally understand what the song's about, but i know it's amazing!!!! | |

| There was a guy named Harry Lundt in the Air Force who died in ww2. I don't know if that has anything to do with this song though. heh | |
