"Another day, another dollar, another war, another tower Went up to where the homeless had their homes " best line in the whole song. the american lifestyle encapsulated in two lines. anyway the first verse is about money and it's effects on people as well as the media. a large part of america. the second verse is about corporations and how they say that they are helping others but really only serving their own ends. the third verse is about the people saying that the system doesn't work even though the first two verse must be correct. I'd explain my viewpoint line for line but I'm tired.

Jewel wrote this song while traveling around the world, she commented on how many people looked like they were waiting for someone to save them. "Who will save your souls........."

"So we pray to as many different gods as there are flowers But we call religion our friend We're so worried about saving our souls Afraid that God will take his toll That we forget to begin" I think she is mocking the way some people are so attached to their religion and so obsessive over it that they ironically forget to apply what many religions preach , good will, to everyday life. I agree with those who think it is about being ego-centric and hypocrytical. Who the hell cares if somebody goes to church and "prays to as many different gods as there are flowers", does that make up for their faults?

Jewel is a genious, she described the american ethic in this song, everyone wants everything done for them, but does not want to do anything for themselves or anyone else. Now people are comming around, (saddly, it took death to give people insight.) and really beginging to understand that the world does not revolve around them.

Jewel is so talented. It's amazing how she can some up the whole North American lifestyle in this song. Has anyone read her poetry books? I hope she keeps writing.

What? How the hell would she write this song when travelling around the world? She grew up poor, then lived in her car for 5 years before she made this album. It's a song about the state of people today, concerned about everything else but themselves. But being concerned about that which doesn't matter.
