the chorus seems to speak bout the loss of innocence. As someone mentioned before "childhood" was when things were simple. Now he is older with a broken heart he searches for something he can count on. The "why don't we go" seems to be pretty much analyzed to death so I'll just leave it at that.

i reckon its about that place where every couple has where they can sit down and talk things thourgh, it seems the relationship is breaking down and they need to go "somewhere only we know" as "this could be the end of everything" that they have!

desaparecida it's not too laaaate dont worry it happened to me and actually you'll find that even if the guy doesn't think he thinks the same, in his heart he knows that something as precious as childhood needs to be remembered and lived as it once was....which this song reminds me of anyway too

I love this song, . ... Best friend, he is a guy.. he sent me this song.. I really like him... What does this mean? What would be a good song to send him.. To tell him that I like him...

I agree silverdew - "I think that the speaker is in a relationship where he is completely in love with his partner, but not satisfied with the relationship." with that exactly. Evident in the line.. "This could be the end of everything" Perhaps after a rekindling of the relationship, wanting to go back to it's roots and where it all began. Touching song.

this song leaves a deep impression on those that take the time to really hear the song. I heard just the once and never again for a while, I had to chase it up, its just one of those songs...I just love the lyric "Oh simple thing, where have you gone.." beautiful

I think that he is trying to save his relationship and is saying lets go to a place where they both know. he wants to move onto the next level of his relationship, or break it, so he is trying to figure it all out.

there is a lot of solitary imagery in it eg 'i walked across this empty land' which seems like he's alone in the relationship, or they have broken up. Then with the bit about the branches looking at him, it seems as if the 'un certainty' of where it went wron is making him almost..mad/crazy. The only way to move on is to go 'somewhere only we know' as if that palce where he shared memories of the girl, can show her what they had. May not even be a literal place..but mroe a state of mind...i dont know.

this is a great song! i wonder why nobody posts... anyway, for me this song is about loneliness. it's like they've broken up for a long time already. but, he's at the point in his life where he doesn't know where to go, what to do. so, he turns to this girl, his ex, and still thinks they have a chance. it's pretty suttle though.

This song is about a guy trying to get a commitment from his girlfriend. hence the verse "I'm getting old and need something to rely on." I think the "fallen tree" represents him, he's looking at himself. He wants to go to the place he first made love to her and try and get those memories and feelings back, although, he almost knows that it "could be the end of everything," but he's hoping that special place will remind her of the love they shared and "let him in" her heart.

Desaparecida, your story is so touching! I almost cried when i read your comment *though i really don't know why exactly*. Anyway that is sorta irrelevant, to me this song is about being lost and alone, in a metaphorical sence, and knowing that your life has changed without consulting you first. I really relate to this song, its bueatiful. I love the piano in all of their songs. Lovely.
