Woooow, is it just me...or they have kind of like a U2-like vibe?? I love the song, and think the meaning can easily be adapted to the meaning we each want to give it.

Damn, I hadn't noticed those comments up there (about U2), anyway, I feel happy not to be the only one who thinks so.

Actually there are not any guitars. Tim Rice-Oxley created the guitar effects on the album using a keyboard and effects pedal.

Ahem, First entry ^^ ! I interpret this song the way that he's with a girl and he feels bored and doesn't know how to take back animosity in his relation.

to begin w/.. i like this new up-beat keane!! lyrical-wise.. i feel like it connects to me. like he knew me nad wrote it 4 me!! (it's weird...) but apart from a relationship, what if he's talking about life?? its twists and turns (see MV) stressing us out (-"is it any wondor i feel tired...uptight...") and confusing us (- "i don't know what's right") and paranoid (-"afraid" "betrayed")?? interesting about the "lonely cathedral". does he find nothing in a church?? (like me?? and death cab 4 cutie's crooked teeth??) strange ideas, i kno that's what i feel..... :) o and "love is just a lyric in a children's rhyme" :D

I think he feels his ex has screwed him over, and he feels betrayed. It sounds like he just wanted a normal relationship, but his significant other was maybe wild or immoral or whatever (hence "the good and true"). It's quite relatable. And I actually thought this was U2 the first time I heard it.. his voice sounds a lot like Bono's.

They DO sound a bit like U2 in this song, particularly the song Zoo Station. Maybe it's just me, but I like Keane with the addition of guitars.

I think this song is amazing. They sound a lot like U2. But that's not a bad thing. Are those... guitars I hear, Keane? Oh, I also think that maybe the theme of this song was borne out of the conflicts between the band members while making this album. I read that they nearly broke up while making it, and maybe this song reflects the emotions they felt during that time.

At first I didn't pay too much attention to this song when they premiered it on BBC1 but now I'm completely obsessed with it. I think i might even BUY the album! Definitely not Bedshaped but I think better. I think it might be ,although the quote from Rolling Stone might be true, about someone being naive and believing the world truly was a good place but then coming to realise that everyone was just laughing at him for his ideas. He feels betrayed and bitter for being treated like a fool. He's clearly questioning the world and blaming it for his anger which these days can be understood! In a way it ties with the Rolling Interview it's like the anthem to our generation.

Yes i thought that they were not guitars, sounded more an effect the Tim created! i suppose an easy way to notice is if u look at any live rendition of this track, there are no guitars there!!!

something he didn't expect has taken place, and now he's completely confused. it was something he never would have thought to happen - like one's wife having an affair or one's child dying.

I just wanted to say I love the line "love is just a lyric in a children's rhyme". It's so beautiful and so depressing. I hope the whole album is as good as this

Not one of my favs. in the new album . But still nice stuff . Different from Hopes and Fears' materials . They r not afraid to discover newer territories and thats good .
