i thought this song was about a girl who died in a car accident. thats why "she's got her halo and wings" but the guy thats in love with her can't believe shes really gone. heaven sends refers to when he met her and heaven takes is when she died... crashing cars in his brain is him replaying the accident in his head. the reference to james dean (who died in a car accident) and how shes "stupid on the streets" shows how she was wrecklessly driving when she died. he says "kill me now" cuz he wants to be with her.

when the guy says "his life is under the gun" i think it means that he's on the verge of committing suicide, cuz like screen play wrote, the guy's gf died and he cant live with the pain i sure do know how that feels...

I just find it coincidental that so many Killers songs reference James Dean, Greta Garbo, Marlon Brando etc. famous alleged or confirmed bisexuals. Almost every celebrity he mentions in a song. The song itself? Well I always thought it was about the death of a girlfriend, or she might be in a coma, and he crashed into her... but it could also have something to do with the Jenny Was a Friend of Mine story. Maybe he didn't kill her and just blames himself anyway.

this song is so fun...i think it's about a guy who just can't see his girl's a ho, and he just wants to think she's only his and pure and everything like that, but really she's sleeping around...maybe i'm basing this on all the other mentions of cheating in the killers work, who knows?

Mr. Brightside has it down. This is such an awesome song. They should have put it on hot fuss. It's my favorite.

I love this song, and I love James Dean, and I love how they mentioned him. Last week I was driving to Fairmount to go to their festival (which the main part is remembering James Dean) and I didn't want to mess with the radio so I put in my Hot Fuss CD and an hour later when I got to Fairmount this song was on and it said "James Dean in the rain" exactly when I found the festival, and I had forgotten that the Killers mention him, and I was just so overwhelmed. I just felt like saying this...this is my 2nd favorite Killers song.

Is there two different versions of this song, like an earlier recorded and the one on the LE Hot Fuss? Or is this a cover? Because before the LE Hot Fuss was released, I had an MP3 of this song and it didn't sound like Flowers singing at all. The voice was high-pitched, nasally with a fake British accent. I bought the Limited Edition Hot Fuss and it's for sure Flowers singing it there. I was curious what that other one was, though. This song's amazing. I think it's about a femme fatale in the guise of a nice & innocent girl, an "angel," luring a timid and unsuspecting guy into a life of crime and ditching him when caught, all of the blame placed on him. "She's got a criminal mind" "He wants to wake up/To prove it's a dream/Cause she's an angel for sure/But that remains to be seen" The guy's in jail, only she can set him free (if she confessed and he'd be charged with a lesser crime, someone obviously dying due to their crime -- "Crashing cars in his brain") and while he knows the girl's long gone (Caught in a trap/The angel's kiss was a joke/She's not coming back) and he wants to die rather than face the punishment she deserves, he does think fondly of the girl for the wild ride she's provided him. "Without her [life's] not the same."

I always thought it was "angel for show" .. and that its was more like a girl toying instead of a car accident but that makes perfect sense. Very smart. :)

i think its alot deeper then a ho girlfriend its a sad song about a man's wife who died in a car accident and he so upset and in denial. "Because heaven sends and heaven takes Crashing cars in his brain" heaven sent her and heaven took her and he keeps thinking about it and nothing will ever be the same and he cant handle it and wants to die, like screenplay215 said. but i think when the voice says stupid on the streets of london it is more of a omniecent voice like god or somthing refering to both of them out drinking and having fun (and her dying in a wreck) and now he is praying (yelling to god) or saying to a close friend "'kill me now' again and again"

I just heard it for the first time last night at the OKC concert, and I LOVE IT! And just to let you all know, the re-released version of Hot Fuss is out now. It has 3 new songs--"The Ballad Of Michael Valentine," "Indie Rock and Roll," and..."Under The Gun"!
