murder? I think you guys are fucking crazy, i just take it as like a love related song about a guy and this well known girl (by him) going out on a night with the intent of getting the lust going. "If you can keep a secret I got a blanket in the back seat of my mind And a little place that sits beneath the sky" --a blanket and a little place that sits beneath the sky, in other words, a spot beneath the sky where they can get under the covers at. "You got a real short skirt I wanna look up, look up, look up, yeah yeah" This one obviously implies a sexual craving. "We were just in time Let me take a little more off your mind" ---have just arrived at the midnight show, wanna drink, you can even say in order to relax. "Somewhere in the back said We were just a good thing We were such a good thing"----"were", as in no longer together. "Oh crashing time can't hide a guilty girl"---"crashing time", when the depression starts to kick in after the use of drugs, hence the alchohol, and the guilt for what she knows is going to end up happening after the show caused by the fact that they're no longer boyfriend/girlfriend, so those kind of feelings (sexual) would be wroung to have then, atleast for some. K, now the whole "if you can keep a secret, well babby you can keep a secret" confuses me,, why would she want to keep...HM, maybe she wants to keep the fact they slept together again a secret from brandon's and the girl's inner circle.? not sure about that last part, but it defenitely keeps consistency with the other translations.

Im suprised there hasnt been more comments either! I love love love this song! I never really listened to it when I first bought the album but its really grown on me. Ive spent many hours trying to figure out exactly what its about. My latest theory is that he’s planned to kill his girlfriend….im not sure if she’s cheated on him but she’s definetly done something wrong – “crashing time cant hide a guilty girl”….i think he’s told her that they are going to a secret place where they can be alone, and to fool around, but he’s really taking her there to kill her and doesn’t want anyone to know where they’re going. Driving out to wherever he’s taking her though, I think the conscience starts to kick in inside his head – “There's something in my head, Somewhere in the back said, We were just a good thing, We were such a good thing” – I think “let me take a little more off your mind” is being sarcastic as he’s about to kill her. “make it go away” is referring to the voice in his head….and also possibly her dead body after he realizes what he’s done. I think the “midnight show” is the murder itself…maybe he gets off on the drama and theatrics of it…and I think the “chandelier” underneath which he kills her, is the moon. I used to think this was just a song about going out in the dark to find somewhere to get it on, but I love that its about a murder now…theres something very sexy about this song, Brandon sure knows how to tell a good story!

Well, Brandon Flowers, the lead singer of the Killers, is unbelievable attractive. And this song is about him taking some girl (preferrably me) out to mess around. Wow, that's hot. "Well, let me take a little more off your mind" Mmmm.....Brandon...

I think he sings "make it made now" and that he means sort of, "just make it done". They probably have something serious to talk about, and he wants to know what´s on her heart. But that´s just what I think, of course. Love the song :)

I sooo agree with tequila. i mean he sings about murder and it sounds so sexy. the whole album has dark and sleazy undertones where the more you think about the lyrics and composition the more cthonic they get!!!

They are making a movie out of the murder trilogy, i so cant wait! Oh and the lyrics "She said she loved me!" are the best in the song, you should all try driving while listening to this really loud, and then scream out this part, its so fun! You sure get some funny looks though!!

One word: MURDER. "I took my baby's breath beneath the chandelier of stars and atmosphere, and watched her disappear?" Somehow I doubt it's simply kissing her breath away. And the synthesizer background mimics the distant sound of sirens, just like in "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine." This band is clearly fixated on death, jealousy, and murder. Also, at the very end, you can hear the distant and enraged lyric, "She said she loved me!" Great song. Surprised it hasn't gotten more comments.

LOVE THIS SONG! Brandons voice is so sexy....heres wat I think the lines mean: I know what you want- (come, lets go 2 a place, mess around) I wanna take you a midnight show tonight (it’s a surprise) If you can keep a secret(don’t tell anyone your going) I got a blanket in the back seat of my mind (I know I’m gonna kill u) And a little place that sits beneath the sky (I know where I’m gonna kill u) She turned her face to speak But no-one heard her cry (noone saw/heard her leave) Drive faster, boy (I used to it was the girl sayin drive faster boy, then I figured out he was thinking. his thoughts: he has to get to the place, before anyone realizes shes gone or before he changes his mind) Drive faster, boy I know there's a hope There's too many people trying to help me cope (2 many people consoling me that ur dead) You got a real short skirt (slut.) I wanna look up, look up, look up, yeah yeah (But I’m gonna kill u instead) We were just in time (in time 2 kill u) Let me take a little more off your mind (Like all off it…) There's something in my head (Thoughts in his mind) Somewhere in the back said We were just a good thing We were such a good thing Make it go away without a word (he’s pushing the thoughts away) But promise me you'll stay (she didn’t agree to promis.) Fix these things I've hurt Make it go away! (The voices!) Drive faster, boy (push away the voices, concertrate) Oh crashing time can't hide a guilty girl (shes “guilty” she needs to punished for her sins.) With jealous hearts that start with gloss and curls ( I took my baby's breath beneath the chandelier. (He killed her) Of stars in atmosphere And watch her disappear (watched her die) Into the midnight show

I don't think the line about "we were such a good thing" is doubt as to what the narrator is doing; rather, I think it's him saying in his to head to his girlfriend "why did you go and cheat on me and ruin our perfectly good relationship and make me have to kill you?". It's a combination of despair, rage, and betrayal, not doubt. At least I think so.

*Most Under-rated Killers Song Ever* This is a song about a guy dumping someone dumping as kindly as they can "Maybe you were better alone". Despite this, I think the song sounds really romantic, it's too short though god dammit!!! Also does anyone think the guitar around 1:45 sound like Muse? Could just be me... Anyone got any ideas for "she told me sweet thang run a labour in your shoes"

but then again it doesnt mean the the other translations and this whole imagined scene is what brandon was writing about in this song, but i like this place cuz it triggers your mind to imagine, which is always good for thinking. This translation seems more realistic than him mudering a girl, unless he intended on just making a fictional story. I take this song as a real expierence in his life, UNLESS he and his band ARE in fact killers, which seems crazy, and i dont even know them.

Wow thi is such an amazing song! Brandon Flowers is just brilliant, its about him murdering his gf...i thihk maybe because she cheated on him or has done something wrong cos he calls her a guilty girl. He is driving her to the place where he is going to kill her and has told her he is going there just to make out. Whilst he is driving he's thinking to himself 'drive faster' before he changes his mind or if somebody realises they are gone. There is a sarcastic tone in this when he says 'let me take a little more off your mind' when he murders her. He is doubting whether he should kill her when a voice comes into his head saying 'we were such a good thing'. He murdered her underneath the stars 'i took my babys breath beneath the chandelier, of stars and atmophere and watched her dissapear' so her then threw her body into the sea 'a crashing tide can hide a guilty girl'. I think htis song is genius as Brandon Flowers can tell a story about murdering his gf and yet i wuoldnt mind bein his gf..lol...hes amazing!

youtube has all these demos/pretty much anything that isn't on the cds. I just found this out now. They aren't videos, just slideshows that somebody put together. Search: replaceable "the killers" . I did that on the normal aol browser, not the video search, and it was just a couple results down. There is a whole bunch of these demos that were added by the same person. This is the best of them (the extra songs that aren't on an album) that I've heard so far, I think. Except for maybe A Great Big Sled cuz that is totally hilarious and more like a song than a demo. Anyway, totally awesome to hear Brandon like this. And yes, it is nice that nobody has yet posted about his looks or sexual preference. ;-) Totally agree with you, ShotgunXXWedding. I think it's because the message part is so quiet and static/fuzzy-ish that when you hear Brandon's voice in all it's splendor in the second part it's kind of chilling. Pretty sweet feeling. --Mari
