I kinda have a different perspective on this song. In the opening speech, Judas is pictured as the 'assailant' and Jesus is the 'wounded man'. Judas is the one that appealed to the law (or romans... whatever) to betray Jesus. The speech then says (from Jesus' perspective) "If I live, I will kill you". Given the fact that Jesus supposedly rose again etc. and now is 'alive' in heaven... acording to the speech, Jesus has to get revenge on Judas, yes? The rest of the lyrics are then all about Jesus getting 'revenge', causing Judas being subject to eternal damnation, and being locked out of heaven by St. Peter, etc.

Mafia. It's what happens if you break the code of silence, Omerta. "A slip of the tongue, a slit of the throat"? Words can be broken so can bones? Someone rats, someone dies.

I think this is one of the most dark song ever. The line "St. Peter greets with empty eyes then turns and locks the gates" sends a chill down my spine. It's obviously about Judas Iscariot. The reason for the name is explained in the line; "Keep my name from your mouth forever", like the term 'Judas' has become a type of curse word. Omerta is the code of silence about criminal acts.

I think i missed something, last time i checked omerta(now there is a huge possibility im wrong here) was this: A rule or code that prohibits speaking or divulging information about certain activities, especially the activities of a criminal organization:(Taken strait from dictionary.com) So, maybe it has nothing to do with the mafia, maybe it shows judas as being Criminal towards jesus for selling him out.....just my thoughts! =-)-=

"whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward, whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both for a wounded man shall say to his assailant if I live I will kill you,If I die you are forgiven, such is the rule of honor"I agree with soap on this one,but this quote to me means kill or be killed but only when you need to

This is all interesting but any idea why Lamb of God would be singing about a story from the bible. Whats the theme?
