A sad reminder that comes to my mind sometimes about the lyrics is: I read this book about true police stories. They had a case where a "family" lived in a dilapitated house, they ripped out the toilet so they peed in milk jugs and defecated in a corner piling it up. The heart wrenching part was they had a baby, and they found him dead trying to crawl under a coach. They whipped him to death with an electrical chord because the baby knocked over a jug of urine. The lyrics are attrocious, but some psychologist believe that people who are depressed have a more realistic view of reality. It's easy to see why. Still this song is a work of art im almost ashamed to like because im a boy scout now.

" Level this place and take us with it." Level this place until nothing is left, and take us with it. Most definitely a great song. I think its talking about how the government is so corrupt " The dirty lord of the manor surveys his filthy domain Too many nights raising hell worked a little all to well. Contructed a monument to denial and excess Sunk so low, crawled so far back there's nowhere left to regress." And it has false accomplishments (the monument) And the hidden stories behind the scenes: "If these walls could talk, they would tell a horror story Never-ending weinter, violence and infidelity Shadows fall through broked panes Careless words that are filled with hate Just enough to keep it together, never enough to make it work Until the rebellion happens because the lies have been stacked so high people actually do something about it. " A huge stinking pile of sick, pile it higher and higher. Light the match, start the fire. Level this place and take us with it." And the rest deals with the war in Iraq as that is their main theme- I'm just not sure how to link it to that at the moment

I think this song is about a father who is abusive and irresponsible with his family--to excess. The opening seems to illustrate the father, either reflecting on his past life--like, he is either dead now, or an ebeniezer scrooge thing, where someone is showing him what he is in store for. Or, maybe the family was taken from him. It seems that the crux of the song is how the father is shameless, and the title of the song could be the father's mantra (whether he knows it or not). "...Your beatings will continue, until my morale improves...", is a rather graphic way of expaining why people are abusive. "...Just enough to make it work, never enough to keep it together..." I think this may be trying to illustrate that the father was somewhat functional in everyday life. Like, he appeared normal, and possibly, the famiily may have appeared normal, but "behind closed doors", nothing of the kind. Some of the lyrics about 3/4 through (starting with, "...Surroundings are irate..." may be describing the children of this wicked man, and how they are going to respond (grown up) to his upbringing of abuse. To say that this song is about war, is perhaps not giving LOG enough credit. These guys are very talented musicians. I like all of their stuff. I like how this pulls-off the old, "start-off slow, then come out swingin'" routine, at the beginning.

How can it be that no one has commented on this amazing song? This song seems to be pretty obvious, in war remorse is for the dead. Just my guess but if you're remorseful in war you die. This line kinda explains it: I don't hate you, I'm just removing an enemy. Remorse is for the dead, my enemy. Great song, love the guitars near the end with that last verse.
