i just bought this cd and it's amazing. i've only listened to it once but this song stuck out in my mind and i went back the next day and listened to it again. good stuff.

this is my favorite lawrence arms song...Chris McCaughan can paint pictures in songs....damn good song. empty rooms don't have pictures to talk to brickwall views demand uninspired afternoons the days are flooding into months the nights are staring into centuries i've got some older pictures of people i see once every couple years intrigued or unamazed you were so much different back in those days fucking right

I've seen these guys in concert twice, got to talk with them a bit after each show. Hands down some of the coolest guys I've ever met.

I love this whole cd, it's surprising how many people view these songs but don't comment. I added abracadaver and right as rain and your gravest words (yay me!) and you guys should check them out, I think abracadaver is best on the album though.

I enjoy the slow part about "now this smile has a bitter curve" because I know that I have changed as a person myself, and sometimes I wonder who I really am.

I think this song is chris talking about how when he leaves to go on tour and comes back after a year nothing has really changed, but everyone he knows has changed. The only only thing that really keeps him, and everyone he knows, friends is living in chicago, and no matter how much he gets to know the people they are now when he leaves next fall the same process will repeat itself. This leaves him looking at his past (pictures) and getting stuck on remembering the good times hes had and how now they seem very far away.
