I think this is a song about what was going on all around in the 70's, and how it made (i think robert plant wrote the lyrics?) him look at himself and question his own identity. After realizing that it's impossible to find yourself in a sea of society's conformity he decided to go someplace secluded and magical to see who he really was, without the pressures of other people and the media distorting his perspective. The beginning reminds me of New York...like how Central Park was in the late 60's-early 70's...

Why don't you take a good look at yourself and describe what you see, And Baby, Baby, Baby, do you like it? a great lyricist and what a voice.

I agree with helloguy here... while it's true that some zeppelin songs are clearly about/have references to Lord of the Rings, this doesn't mean that they all have to. I won't deny that Ramble On is at least somewhat about lotr. But does every zep song have to be? This is not just a comment about this song... while I'm sure there are some songs that have references that I just don't understand, every song doesn't have to be a tolkein reference.

This was one of the songs that first got me into Zep. I think it's about wanting to get away from the supression of society and examine yourself and just generally trying to find some peace.
