Playin the low-end for "Bent" Jacksonville, FL

Here is the core of this song there are a couple variations that he

plays, ie: over the solo but this will getcha through the song sounding

awesome....

Lightning Crashes

---------------

Live from Throwing Copper

***NOTE**** the bass and drums do not enter until the end of the 2nd

verse.....when the vocals go "her intentions fall to the floor"

slide in from the 12th to 2 on the E string...Remember the ONLY way

to make this song work when you play it out is to make it build in

intensity so start out SOFT!!! and play wide open at the end.....I

start out clean with the tone low and end up with deep chorus and

wide open vol & tone also sounds rather bad ass with some flange.

Verse:

G-----|-----|----- ||

D---- |-----|----- || follow the guitar changes here & repeat

A---- |-2-2-|----- || ad nauseum....stay on the f# when the guitar

E -0-0|-----|-2-2-2-2|| does....

Chorus:

oh now feel it coming ...blah blah

G-----|---- |----||

D-----|---- |----|| These changes are right on the vocals

A-----|--22 |----|| and are the same notes as the verse but

E-00- |---- |-2-2|| different rhythm

Solo:

G-------|------|------|------|--------------|I play this in time

D-------|------|------|------|--------------|with the kick. just

A-------|------|------|------|-----2-2------|listen to your drummer.

E-4--2--|-4--2-|-4--2-|-4--2-|0-0-------2--4|

Kick in the volume on the last 3 choruses and try to look like you're

groovin on a song that is REALLY hard to play :)

Ciao -

Lisa

Throwing Copper is easily Live's best album. I remeber when I first heard this I was around 9 or 10 and even then I liked it, now that I'm lder and understand the lyrics and not just the amazing sound of how the lyrics blend so greatly with the music I love this song even more.

i first heard this song like three years ago and the moment i heard it i loved it. it took me a long time to figure out what the name of it was. sometimes i would hear people singing it and i would always ask them but no one ever knew - so i found out one day and its still by far one of my favorite songs of all time.

i just watched something on VH1 last night. it was the 90 best songs of the 90's. but this song was on there. the band was saying the song was very emotional for them and it was about a mother giving childbirth while another woman was dying down the hall. one person was ending their life, while another was begining. its such a powerful song.

this song is about the circle of life, the new mother gives brith to the baby (and lives) and the angle opens its eyes signifing the babies life, kinda like a garden angle i guess. while the women down the hall dies. the line the "confusion that was hers/ belongs now, to the baby down the hall" i think means like lifes confustion. so i think this song is basically saying while one person dies another is born and the new life takes the place of the old. maybe?

I just listened to this song again after 5 or 6 years. This was the first cd i ever bought...imagine that. Neway i believe this song is about life and death like a few mentioned earlier. The first verse is about birth and then 2nd verse is about death. Life is expressed as confusion which is being passed to the newborn. The chorus is describing the forces of life and death coming together. Lightning is created when electrons and protons attract...so i guess this could be a metaphor for for forces of life n death. "forces pulling from the center of the earth" Heaven and hell? possibly so. Well, that's just what i got from it...great song even several years later.

THIS IS THE BEST LIVE SONG EVER.... it's clearly about a women, dying at the birth of her child. the words are so sad. "the angel opens her eyes" -the baby opens them for the first time. "the angel closes her eyes" - the mother dying. etc. it's really dramatic..... it gives me chills each time i hear it. As i heard it Live wrote it for a friend, whose wife (girlfriend) died while giving birth. She was only 19.
