this song is about suicide. You can see the burning red (album) as someones life, enter the phoenix (first song) is birth, the burning red (last song) death in this case suicide, the songs between are happening during life.

This song is about Rob's life. Losing people that you care for and love. One of their most touching songs. "Colder and colder just hold on to me" One of the best lines written by Machine Head.

I think Rob is reflecting on his life, the pain he has been through "I've seen the world thru jaded eyes" - he see's differently to most others because of his experiences- abuse & such things. "I've watched the darkness hypnotise" - almost like deperssion [darkness] has overpowered him. "Caress the needle prick in my skin" - Heroin... "Ive seen the light on suidice & i'm dying" - very straight foward, he has seen the advantages of suicide "And im dying" - he doesnt mean literally, just dying in his head... The chorus is straight forward... "These scars need to heal over" - he needs to overcome depression & stuff... "Colder & Colder" - he may mean that he is growing colder & colder over time "Just hold onto me", might mean dont give up on him, stay with him... help him thru it... btw, great song...

Brilliant song, very very sad though. I didn't see this song coming from Machine Head at all but here is my interpretation. Basically the first verse suggests to me that he is realizing all these things that are wrong with himself and with the world. "I see the sun begin to rise and I'm blinded too" "I've watched the darkness hypnotize" These are powerful lines. The next line that really stands out is "I've seen the light of suicide and I'm dying" This may or may not be a metaphor for seeing the world kill itself or he could be killing himself. The last lines "Colder and colder, Just hold onto me" suggests that he could be dying, or that he will die and this world will parish and he doesn't want to die alone, either way.
