I believe that Machine Head have now reached that level, the level of the likes of Pantera, Slayer etc. After all what are 2 bad albums next to 4 incredible ones (IMO). Slayer had a week patch late nineties which they recovered from and Panteras Glam albums before Cowboys... well anyway. To me this song is about exactly what everyone has said, but I get a message more of becoming greater, conquering all the obstacles and shit thrown by society (as mentioned) and becoming more positive and strong spiritually... or something like that but worded better! Whenever I am having trouble in my life, emotionally, physically, mentally, whenever there is a challenge I am trying to get through like doing heavier weightlifting, playing better guitar and drums, standing up to the scum and violence living around me, this song gives me the strength I need. Let go your sorrow Sun will shine, this I promise Rising tommorow Rising

Haha just browsing some songs and checked the last comment added box... it was for a KoRn song. I don't understand how there can be 50 comments on a KoRn song with utterly laughable lyrics, and only 7/8 comments on one of the greatest metal songs ever written. Machine Head have raised the bar and are up there with Pantera/Slayer etc in my head :) The only thing I can complain about is their tendancy to crank the volume up to the max at gigs, making the sound engineering in a small room sound shitty - and me deaf for about 3 days after! n1 Rob :P

Oh my fucking God. This is absolutely the best Machine Head song I've ever heard. The chorus just makes me wanna thrash some motherfuckers. And then the solo and the outro...GodDAMN! They really put this song away.

Words do not describe how fucking amazing this song is. It's my anthem. The meaning is pretty clear - to be yourself, resist conformity, no matter what obstacles society throws in your path. Incidentally, "Imperium" is the order of society in ancient Rome. Gotta be the best title ever.

I wouldnt say they are up with slayer and Pantera yet as they have released 2 very poor albums and this album still has a few bad tracks on. But this could possibly be one of the greatest metal songs of all time.

I agree, I think this song is about behind told what to do and refusing and rebelling. 'I'll stand here defiantly My middle finger raised' And also about they're hatred for society?

RoadRunner Records, and their spilt with them. "Fuck these chains, No god damn slave" and being able to do their own thing. just a guess but it looks like that to me. ironic that they rejoined RR if it is.
