| Yeah i agree with both ReActor and my nothing's views on this one. the song is about the despair and sadness of an older individual longing for his days of youth, when he was happy. But you can't help but assume that these lyrics represent personal views of Richey, like so many of his holy bible era songs. | |

| It's definitely about an old person wanting to die, but I think 'the summertime' actually refers to dying when they were young and happy, before they knew how terrible it is being grown up. It's a common Manics (and particularly, Richey) theme, that we were happy and free when we were young and now we have to be adults things are shite. And there was that Smash Hits interview when old Richey told everyone to kill themselves before they reached adolescence, or something. | |
