I think this song is talking about letting go. You kno that whole saying if u love something set it free and if it comes back its meant to be. I think thats what he is talking about. He is so confident that she is the one for him that he knows that he can let her go. When he says "I’ll never leave you behind Or treat you unkind I know you understand And with a tear in my eye Give me the sweetest goodbye That I ever did receive", hes sayin that he would never do those things to her, but he knows shes gonna come back to her thats why its the sweetest goodbye. Kind of like Romeo and Juliet. So the song is about basically letting go. I cant wait for their next album.

I kinda relate to this song, but the last goodbye I had with my ex when we were face to face (we still talk but only on MSN) was on a train platform, and I took it for granted. I knew we were breaking up at the end of that weekend, but we had such a great day together I thought we'd stay together. The train arrived, and I kissed her. I got on the train and told her that I loved her through the window. She said something back and I still don't know exactly what it was. We both pressed our hands on the window, and her fingerprint stayed for the entire journey, a torturous reminder. One of the things I remember the most is looking out the window and seeing her slowly disappear from view as the train pulled away. I struggled so hard not to cry because it was such a heartbreaking view.

This tab is mostly correct except for everything is one whole step too high.

my first thought is that he is having an extramarital affair with a female like when he says "And if it never ends then when do we start?" and also "How does it feel to know you never have to be alone when you get home"

couldn't it relate to you if you knew somebody that you liked and they suddenly hook up with someone else. the feeling kinda sucks and Maroon 5 sometime can sum up your feelings like that i love this band

i think this song can have many meanings - but i dont think that its is all about sex. there are sexual refrences but if you listen to the whole cd then these crop up in almost every song! i definitly agree that this song can be about having an affair and being the ''other woman'' or the ''other man''. it can be about how he is trying to persuade this soman that she is better off with him, even though she always has to leave. however at first though i thought this song was about long distance relationships and how he always has to say goodbye to his girl, but he will always love her and how he is always waiting for her, and its about missing your partner when they are away. i love this song. i relate to it so much!

this song never struck me as goodbye sex. it always reminded me of my exboyfriend. especially the first bit, which made me think about wanting to see him while he was away. to me its about loving someone and not being able to have them anymore because they're ending it, though you know that you'll love them forever and wanting to show them that and stop them from going.
