I adore this song, I'm not alone here I see, but someone could actually explain me what "Could you paint me better off" means? I'm Russian but I know English very well so get me at least some clue. "to paint smb. off" and more - better? For god's sake! (it's not rhetorical, I'm actually trying to translate these lyrics).

It's about my glasses. They're always bending. Sorry, that's what I thought the first time I heard it. Anyway, great song. Phenomonal. Spectacular. I can only think of three syllable words to describe it. :)

firstly this is one of my favorite songs ever when i saw them in concert they opened this with Rob saying 'when we toured with this album we discovered that in europe 'bent' means gay. and this was during my 'tight pants and eyeliner stage'. so all over the place there are these posters of me in tight pants and eyeliner with 'bent' in big letters underneath'

I think it's interesting how all anyone writes about is how much Matchbox Twenty kicks ass. Don't get me wrong, I completely agree, but isn't this supposed to be a website where we comment on the meaning of the song? Well, from watching Storytellers with Matchbox Twenty on it, Rob Thomas says how this song is saying that "Hey, I'm messed up over here, and you're messed up over there. Let's get together and this could be something good."

I'm inclined to agree. Matchbox 20 rules. The video for Bent brings out the words of the song. It's great. When are they gonna put out another CD?

Oh I have to thank this song forever, because it made me fell into MB20 back in 2000; after seeing its video. I was so emotional back then, it would even make me cry without knowing why, maybe because of the "Bent" (in other words "feeling down", being wrong, or hurt) feeling. It's amazing how Rob at first seems to be angry at the person, but actually he's begging her to help him recover...The music also helps this song to go deeper within you. Later on I had the chance to hear the performance of Bent in Storytellers and it's exactly like Raine said, about two screwed people getting together trying to make something good out of it. Bent is one of the very few songs that remain untouchable and that awakes a million feelings within me, and I can see from 2000 to this day how I've changed, how I screwed some things up and how I would give anything to have the chance to be that *innocent, unspoiled* person I used to be being 18. "When my smile gets old and faded, wait around I'll smile again...", "I'm so scared that I'll never, get put back together..." these lines somehow bring me hope, thinking that I *might* sometime get to heal my wounds, and that it's only a matter of time...but at the same time I'm *so* afraid that it won't ever happen...

This song is about him looking for someone who really understands him. Rob Thomas is such an amazing songwriter... I especially love the lyrics If I fall along the way Pick me up and dust me off And if I get too tired to make it Be my breath so I can walk If I need some other love Give me more than I can stand And when my smile gets old and faded Wait around I'll smile again

i think its about a guy who has problems and no one is there for him, but there is a girl who can help him, but if she doesn't help him he'll go "farther down" and then they'd both have problems.

I'm sorry, but who can compare to Matchbox Twenty? Thank God I've been born at this time, that I may listen to MB20 24/7 and never get tired of them. They are my favorite band of all time.

the persona in this song is bent and he's asking someone speical to help him because he might never be the same old person he used to be. just like a paperclip, once you had it bent, though you try to return it to its old shape, there's always a sign of it being bent...

I like Raine's take on this song... or Raine's take on Rob Thomas's take (Rob Thomas is really hot by the way) i totally relate to this song... it's about someone who's going through some trouble looking for someone to help... and i like how it is "bent" and not "broken"...sometimes you can fix things that are only bent

First off, I ABSOLUTELY ADORE AND LOVE AND AM OBSESSED WITH MATCHBOX TWENTY!!!!!!!! They ROCK!!!! But I heard from my mom that back in her day, bent meant fucked. She said they would say bent instead of the actual word so the teachers wouldn't know what they were talking about. My friend thinks that this song is about sex. "Start bending me...it's never enough...till I feel all your pieces...start bending me...keep bending me...until I'm completely broken in" But I don't think that. I think that he had a messed up life and someone came along who Rob was able to depend on to "pick him up and dust him off" if he fell along the way.
