the strangest thing in this song is the hammer mentioned repeatedly in the second stanza; generaly a hammer is not used to kill people, infact a hammer is a vey odd murder weapon. i think if someone can find out about a masacre that happened involving a hammer then the song meaning should become obvious. also i think in the sleave notes dave mentions this and bad omen being inspired by some guuy; i forget but if someone has the lyric booklet handy typing that name into google may help

"Their bodies convulse, in agony, and, pain. I mangle their faces, till no features remain. A blade for the butchering, I cut them to shreds. First take out the organs, then cut off the head." It sounds like he's talking about fishing

JoshPR, nice pseudo-knowledge, but it's not based on fact whatsoever. Satanists do not kill for Satan, to do so has nothing to do with Satanism. Hell, LaVeyan Satanism doesn't even worship Satan (as we understand him) as an entity. A lot of Satanists are very nice people, but of course our Christianity-based society depicts Satanists as murdering scum. Here's a little trick; if it's not on Wikipedia, it's propably not fact. (Disagree with me? Don't tell me, as I won't bother responding unless you make some pretty fucking good arguments.) Now, back to the song. It's obviously about violent murder, which is also a theme in for example Sleepwalker from United Abominations. The vivid descriptions of the pain gives the lyrics a sadistic twist. (Just because the song says it's sadistic, doesn't mean it is. Shut up.) This sadistic twist, along with the warning "if you see me coming run as fast as you can", makes the listener asume that the song is about a psycho-/sociopath on a killing spree, as said before by several reviewers. Overall, the general feel of the song is that it is describing a psychotic mass-murder on people who have done some wrong ("Deviant defilers, you're next to be dead") which has concerned the character. Oh, BTW, since it's apparently obligatory to make some bland, tired, obvious statement of one's opinion about the song which has nothing to do with the purpose of this site: 7|-|15 50/\/6 r0XX0r5!!!111one.

Violent, but fucking awesome!!! This is easily Megadeth's best song. I don't take a word of this song seriously, but it's well put together, and the guitar work is unbelievable. Chris Poland rulez!

(Referring to the painkiller) Actually, a hammer is a pretty good weapon. It's been used in the middle ages and referred to as a warhammer, here's a site that sells them http://www.bytheswordinc.com/acatalog/War_Hammers.html Hammers are also used in todays millitary for breaking open locked doors, plus I've always amagined a U.S. marine or soldier, in a pinch, bashing some one's head open with a sledge hammer. Also, I think a couple of guys killed their wives with hammers.

Dave is great but he could not predict the future. Hence, this song cannot make reference to the Tehran Masacre occured in 1988. However, the lines "my evil deeds" and "It's Black Friday, paint the devil in the wall", leads me to agree with JoshPR. I wouldn't call it a holliday though.

Intresting by all. I am going to have to go with the satan thing because that sounds very close to the song. The first time I heard it, was thinking of some middle aged white guy driving to work, and just for the hell of it on friday, goes on a killing spree.
