| @ cowchpotato: metallica's managers forced the promos on them. and to metallica, recording radio cash contest promos is their idea of selling out. therefore they fucked around over the recordings, which is what you see in SKOM. | |

| I have to say that I agree with the alcohol analogy, especailly when you consider that both beer and whiskey are "amber" in color. Wow. That was deep and profound. Surprised myself with that. Unfortunately, I also have to use this avenue to voice my dislike for the entire St. Anger album. This is just not Metallica. What happened to good? Seems like they turned up the "suck" and turned off the "good". And also, did anyone notice that they just killed off Kirk. No more sweet masterful guitar solos that Metallica was known for, as well as the melodies. I can't recall any single melody on the St. Anger CD. Anyway, Metallica, turn off the "suck" and turn "good" back on. | |

| ok the song is about James' addiction with alcohal since he went out of control while making this cd (check out the metallica DVD "Some Kind of Monster" it explains alot) well it about how hard it is to over come an addiction Ooh then she holds my hand And i lie to get a smile - that explains how he lies about his addiction to make people think hes ok She holds the pen that spells the end She traces me in a draws me in- that refers to how the addiction controls him not a woman Chase the rabbit, fetch the stick She rolls me over 'till i'm sick She deals in habits, deals in pain I run away, but i'm back again- that explains that the addciotn controls him and he'll do anything to feed his a addiction | |

| this song is awesome. in fact the whole St Anger is, i think, the most powerful music they have ever made. they keep changing and moving and i admire them for that in todays world of thousands of almost identical rock bands with exactly the same sound creeping out of the woodwork everyday. metallica are still original. as for the song, i think it is all metaphors for James' stuggle with addictions. "I run away, but i'm back again" cud be easily seen as relating to possible feelings of self hate and shame when he drank alot, but then he came back over and over. also, "she hold my hand" as if something has a grip on him and,as if he jus tries to ignore it by giving "her" what she wants...but then "she squeezes tighter." I think the whole is absolutely awesome, the more i listen to it the better and more powerful it gets. its raw man, thers jus raw pure emotion and i believe thats reflected from the band for the first time actually confronting emotions and problems between them. that is brought forward in the music, becuase for the first time ever, they jus got in a room and jammed for a session and each member had an input into the entire sound so all the emotion, good and probably bad too, changed the sound of the music to the raw power that i hear wen i listen 2 it. personally, i think metallica are stronger and more powerful than ever! | |

| i agree with razormasticator except change the word heroin to alcohol. because it make more sense. james doesnt do drugs and he was in rehab for alcohol abuse. | |

| Hm... to me, this song just sounds like a normal relationship played out by, say, two rival spies? Of course, that's just from the first and second lines, and no other line supports this theory. And then again, there could be more... since Metallica likes weaving stories in songs (Unforgiven, Ronnie, The Phantom Lord, Harvester of Sorrow) as well as write songs about stories (For Whom the Bell Tolls, The Thing That Should Not Be, Creeping Death), this could be an example. In the beginning, both are agents or spies. But after a while, the guy and hence the narrator quits "the business" to be with "Amber", although she stays in it. He basically gets screwed over from there. Then again, maybe I've just watched Tarantino films too many times, since my interpretation sounds like something he'd write. Speaking of Tarantino, how many of you knew (or cared to know) that Lars (yes, Metallica's Lars) is producing the soundtrack for his latest, Kill Bill? | |
