| i agree with Metro47. I also think the fact that she juxtaposes 'portrait of a lady' with 'picture of a girl' serves to make 'picture of a girl' sound cheap, and this is how she feels. I can, unfortunately, relate to this song. | |

| So has anyone seen the video? Playing on the old Doppelganger theory that everyone in the world has an exact duplicate and some believe if you ever encounter your doppelganger that you'll instantly die. (I'm not sure why exactly you would die, but that's the theory...perhaps intense shock of seeing someone that looks exactly like you) | |

| well i was gonna comment...but that whole dopelganger theory just kind of freaked me out...i'm going to bed. and yes the french lyrics, for the most part, are a translation of the english lyrics | |

| this song is about a girl that doesnt know herself and needs someone to tell her. thats why she cant stand being by herself becuase when she is alone she doesnt know who she is. she has to go with what society wants her to be. shes doing things she doesnt nessesarily want to. | |

| Ok, straight from the horse's mouth, Metric. On their site they are looking for extras for their next video (Poster of a Girl, yay!) and they put this: Poster of a Girl, the latest video for Metric, is a psychological thriller set in an after-hours voyeuristic night club. There ya go, quite interessting, n'est pas? By the way, the french part is just the english part, translated. Case you're wondering | |

| this song is about the sexual nature of human beings both male and female...everyone has desires they want to fulfill and this sometimes drives us all to be a bit pahetic...sleeping around etc. i think the whole poster, portrait thing is just a metaphor for the empiness of the sex theres no emotions attached its meaningless, flat, only a poster | |

| This song is about one of those girls who doesnt know who she is, therefore she sleeps around just to have someone to be close to. She feels like just an image, just something pretty to look at that doesnt think or feel. I think there are a lot of people in the world who are like this, trying to validate their simple existance by having sex with strangers. | |

| Wow I didn't know you were supposed to die with the Doppelganger theory. I like this song. The radio edit cuts out the French bit and the video edit puts the French at the beginning. I love how she just goes "coming in your pants" randomly in the middle of all the French. To me, the song is about a girl who goes out to find a guy to take home, but none of them are right, they're too young/virgin, etc. and she wants to satisfy herself and doesn't care about anyone else. | |
