Who are these people? "Ever since Isaac cut back on the drugs, he hasnt been as creative." "Unfortunately I think the lack of acid has killed a lot of creativity in this band as the new album just doesn't have the same catchiness or spark as the previous ones." Yeah guys Isaac owes it to all of us to do more drugs and f*ck his life up. He's so selfish for not doing drugs and writing songs about NOT doing drugs! Let's all tie him down and stuff a whole bunch of whatever in his mouth so we can be happy with the idea of him being good and drugged up. What the f*ck is wrong with some of these people? Modest mouse don't owe you a goddamn thing.

Brock's unusual brilliance may actually come from his LSD use. I'm not saying that he should go back to using it to write a lyric, but if you've ever seen any interviews or heard any interviews with Jerry Garcia, who everybody knows was a purveyor of the drug's use, you would see that Jerry was an extremely intelligent, well spoken man. Isaac just seems to exude this sort of mindframe. Just my observation...

this song is one of the only reasons that i have not tried drugs. some of my friends are getting into them, they have offerend me some on numerous occasions, but I just think of the desperation of this song and some of my friends who have been in his situation

hey bro, no need to get testy. I didn't say he owes it to his fans to keep tripping, it's his life and his decision to stop. All I was doing was stating an obvious fact about the quality of the music. The new stuff is clearly less inspired than most of his older work, and that's fine, that happens to most musicians. It just marks the end of an era for Modest Mouse. I do disagree with the statement that "Modest Mouse don't owe us a goddamn thing" as we are the fans, we make the band who they are, we devote our time, attention, and money to this band and expect a certain level of satisfaction from their work. If they fail to meet these expectations then they can be sure that they will lose my time, attention, and money. Every band owes their fan base whether they realize it or not.

I do not agree that we owe modest mouse anything, becuase if they didn't have that much support, they'd probably still be making music. Aside from that, I think that hte new modest mouse is hard to get into, but some songs are really good. This song is pretty clever; "the good times are killing me" is a very clever title, considering that most good times kill you physically and/or mentally (i.e. relationships, sports, etc.) This song is specifically related to drugs, but can transcend into many other processes. I love this song

he wasnt doing drugs when he wrote most of the songs on sad sappy sucker yet everyone thinks thats a great song. he was only 17 when he wrote them too. so you dont need drugs to write good songs about how you feel and thats what most of the songs he wrote about were. when you take drugs you feel somethign different and we can tell which songs he was talking about drugs like drammamine and such. so just chill with all the drug talk about how it made him more creative. it doesnt. you take drugs you write about what youre feeling, you dont take drugs you still write about what youre feeling. his songs, his music, his outlet not yours, he doesnt give a shit about you and never will, he's writing music and happens to get paid for it, so keep your "he's lacking creative ability" comments to yourself. go read a book.
