this song plays at my work (american eagle) and everytime it comes on we all go nuts and have a little party over our headsets and sing about how we count the tiles on the ceiling... i guess it's not wierd

I'm going to have to agree with a previous poster who said that this song is about anxiety and/or depression. I suffer from GAD (general anxiety disorder) myself and I can tell you that I relate to this song quite well. The lines: "I'm sick of the things I do when I'm nervous Like cleaning the oven or checking my tires Or counting the number of tiles in the ceiling Head for the hills, the kitchen's on fire!" That is basically the OCD aspect of anxiety kicking in. He feels like he has to check his tires, and clean the oven because it is a nervous habit that often is associated with OCD. The "head for the hills the kitchen's on fire" is essentially a thought of what anxiety is all about, irrational fears that take over that we cannot control. "'Cause I hate the ocean, theme parks and airplanes, Talking with strangers, waiting in line I'm through with these pills that make me sit still Are you feeling fine? Yes, I feel just fine. " Theme parks, oceans, and airplanes are common fears with people, but talking with strangers and waiting in line as often associated with social anxiety, where one suffers and has attacks in social situations, where they feel like they just cannot sit still, like the world is collapsing in on them. "Give me a reason (I don't believe a word) To end this discussion (of anything I've heard) To break with tradition (You tell me that it's not so hard) To fool and rely (It's all so hard) So let’s not get carried, (away with it) Away with the process of healing relations I don't want to waste your time" I essentially think this is a conversation between him, and quite possible a therapist or friend who doesn't completely understand his condition. He wants to get out of the conversation as quickly as possible because what he is being told, he completely doesn't believe and he becomes uncomfortable. The breaking of tradition I believe is that people with problems of anxiety and depression traditionally talk to people about their problems, and he is hoping he can just be that person to break the habit of having to vent his feelings, and just get on with his life, and tell himself that he is fine. He feels as if the person trying to help can never understand or help, and that it's a lot harder to get the thoughts out of his head than these people think it to be. Well that's my take on it from reading the lyrics and actual experience with the symptoms and problems associated with anxiety/depression.

although there are some extremely strange lyrics, i find this song to be amazing. definitely the most "fun" song on the album. i still think 'my favorite accident' is the best

Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy *cue screaming fangirls*, Robb Maclean and Patrick Carrie of Limbeck do the background vocals in the "Give me a reason..." section.
