It's about an unsupportive girlfriend. He's busting his (really very nice) ass trying to 'make it' and she thinks he's making "a big mistake". "I have played in every toilet" - the crappy gigs Muse played on their way to the top. Well, in the UK anyway. Apparently there were times they would play to about 30 people in a British pub, then go across the Channel to play to a crowd of 10,000 screaming French fans. Thank God the rest of the world have wised up a bit.

they played this crappy gig in the garage in london, there were about 100 people there, but they were already getting kinda big there, although Matt hadn't the confidence to look up at the crowd, cute now they are the best live band in brittain (according to nme and some select people). I also thought like lauradonaghy this song was about an unsopportive love, but this could well be a girlfriend, town or parents even. Anyway, i'm glad they are HUGE now... Shantixxx

OK, I've found out. But, if anyone wants to know, it's this: if you search for “muse” in a dictionary, in most cases, the word before it is 'muscle', and the word behind is 'museum'. Nice.

"I have played in every toilet" refers to the toilet circuit of shit venues that most new bands have to play when they first go out an tour. Comes from the Tunbridge Wells Forum which was originally a public toilet before it became a venue.

Matthew Bellamy once said in an interview that the song is actually about the time the band spent at home in Devon, trying to make it. Putting 120% of their energy in performances for 5 people at the local pub, but not even being given the chance to show what they could. The song is to be about the frustrations they experienced when scrubbing toilets for a living...not even being given the chance.

you should check out their B faces (map of your head's GREAT !!!) and their dvd that's about to be out (june in europe and on internet i guess). Muse is a LIVE band, that's how they consider themselves. you should download some live songs, they're amazing !
