yea this song is sweet, probably one of the best on high/low. im not exactly sure of meaning either but ill take a guess..... The term "Stalemate" usually gives the sense of a deadlock or uncertainty. He basically feels 'stuck' which is also shown through his references to jail. He feels caged in this sense and realizes it is not a good thing (ie. "not safe in a jail"). I think the song is about how he is not fully living his life. He is a "nervous watcher" and always has to see others enjoying the world while he is caged. Throughout the song he says "when do i jump out of the cake" and its easy to feel a sense of a birthday party. He wants to yell out and scream "surprise" and feel the adrenaline and emotions of the world. However, there is something in him that holds him back and he is struggling to overcome these feeling and has trouble escaping from his cell.
