I think it's just supposed to be a funny song.. not like a rallying cry or anything. Nada surf kicks ass regardless.

God i love this song...i LOVE this song. If you've grown up in a small, closeminded town, full of people like this, there is no greater satisfaction than screaming it at the top of your lungs after a bad day at school.

this should be further noted as a classic! it deserves a lot of credit, it is just something i run throught the halls of my high school singing! I AM THE TEENAGE GUIDE TO POPULARITY! this song IS about a guy who i went to school with, his name was john, star football player, wrote articles in the newspaper, made all the girls swoon... whatever! i love you nada surf!

This song is the best. All of the "popular people" (or so they call themselves) at my school r just like this, they're SO annoying, good song to mock them

I love this song! I remember the first time I heard it, I fell on the floor laughing. "Wash your hair once every two weeks", that's my favorite part.

I'm just writing this because no one else has said anything around what I think it means.. I think its about falling in love with someone who thinks along these lines, obviously being sarcastic and bitter, saying go ahead, be this way, you're so wonderful, you're so smart, you'll never know how the real world is. You'll never know how much it actually hurts. And that jerk or crybaby, that's me.

I absolutely love this song. In fact, my ex-boyfriend's name is Johnny, so this song sort of applies. It really does stereotype everything, but the song is so right..

Hah... I still listen to this all the time too, and when I tell people about it they think I imagined it or something. Then I start singing it and they're like, "Ohhh... I remember."
