These are the lies the things you never mention, These are my past mistakes I'll stay away from, It's my only saviour, From not saying what I want to say, I think it may even have to do about how nfg wants to be different and try not to mold into what everything others want them to be...

First of all need4creed, you're a loser. How can you talk about nfg conforming and trying to be exactly wht record companies want? YOU'RE A CREED FAN! At first they tried to make people think they had a unique spiritual and uplifting message (and I'll admit, I liked them for awhile too) but it became very apparent after awhile that they just wrote songs that they thought they could get all over the radio (including all the poppy stations), is that what you meant by not being straitforward, like creed acting like they really cared about their music, when all they wanted was radio play? What happened to them huh? Anyway, this is an awesome song and I think it's about coming to terms with things in his youth and childhood, and growing up. Acknowledging his mistakes and learning from them. He's trying to express that writing is his only way to tell what he really feels because what you say is often not the truth about how you really feel. That's my take on it.

I think this song is about maturing, about moving on. I relate to it because the narrator seems to be torn between maturing and everything it is he's leaving behind because the people he's surrounded himself with haven't gotten to "his level" yet, so to speak. And being torn, he finds it difficult to express what he's feeling.
