| Ok- we were All wrong-check this out: "The song, which was written in January 2000, addresses two emotional issues that affected frontman Chad Kroeger during the creation of the track. The first was the loss of his grandmother, who passed away a few days before he started writing the lyrics. "I was just really unimpressed with the way the whole funeral took place," he said recently. "I felt it could have been handled a lot better. It was in this really small town where she met my grandfather and they started the family. That's why the song goes, 'I paid my last respects this morning on an early grave/ Already said goodbye, nothing left to say/ A tiny church, a tiny town and not a tear was spent/ Not how I wanted it, I'm hating all of this.' " "Woke Up This Morning" also addresses Kroeger's ex-girlfriend Jodi, who was the subject of the band's first smash hit, "How You Remind Me." After dealing with the pain of attending his grandmother's funeral, the singer had to return back home to his dysfunctional relationship. "That's where the next lines [in the song] come from," Kroeger said, " 'I've been a loser all my life, I'm not about to change/ If you don't like it there's the door, nobody made you stay/ Ain't a woman on the planet who can deal with this/ Not how I wanted it, I'm hating all of this.' " The whole thing's about a month in my life when I felt like sh-- when I woke up in the morning." | |

| I definately don't think Chad was suicidal. I just think it's about someone who has trouble expressing how they feel and someone who doesn't know how to deal with pain well so they avoid putting themselves in situations where they might get hurt. But then then they meet someone who "came along and tore this wall down around me, looks like you found me." and they realize what they have been doing, hiding from their feelings, they could end up alone like the person that was buried. | |

| I don't know about anyone else, but does this song remind you of September 11? As some of you hardcore Nickelback fans may know, their CD came out on that day. I bought it that day, brought it home and listened to it nonstop as I did my homework. Out of all the songs on the CD, I think the general mood 'Woke Up This Morning' created, best represented the anguish of that day. For me, it will always symbolize Terrible Tuesday. | |

| I don't really seee this song as suicidal, because I can kind of relate to it. It sounds like he lost someone close to him and it hurts him everyday, but no one can understand his pain, not even those closest to him. It's lonely, but sometimes a person can seek solitute, without wanting to kill themselves. | |

| To me it means that no matter who comes along that he'll never have any faith in himself. It's really sad. | |

| To me, it's about someone who has always been hiding their feelings and anger and is basically all alone in the world. Always very depressed, but they meet someone who really tries to see who they really are. (Did that make sense?) | |
