imagine if this song is about a dead man's ghost and his days in the afterlife, an afterlife wear ghosts have to earn a living by posessing the non dead or getting a "life". The central charector choses not to "get a life" as he feels there will be no point if his heart is not in it (both literally and symbolically) and thus sells his soul to pay the rent. Maybe he wonders if he is actually doing nothing because he feels he should out of principle or maybe he is just lazy like his fellow ghosts suggest he is. but then again it could all be a little bit of fun and games.

Wicked song, very Revolver-esque (oasis? stealing from the beatles? surely not?!) still a great song tho, and as a lazy tax dodger pretty much a sumise of my life at present. Love the new album, the the songs from the new members add a new dimension previously unheard from oasis

Great song. Luv the line 'I can't get a life if my hearts not in it.' Feel like that when ur teachers and parents and everyone r saying 'do this, don't do that, stop wasting your time.'

What a great song by a great band. The death from cocaine thing does seem to make sence, although it could just as easily be about simple lazyness. Yeah, whoever said it was right, the Oasis are as close as we can come to bringing back the 60s.

The video took me by surprise, not oasis style at all. The decision to include coffins and a funeral in the video suggests to me that the word 'Idle' might even relate to death. "As long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine" - hmmm... a bed under the stars eh?

As one of the Gallaghers (Noel, I think) put it, "Doing nothing is a job so important that somebody had to write a song about it."

Guys this Song... this guy is dying because of Cocaine and the lifestyle he is having. If u read about his personal Life you will see he had to "Quit" cocaine cause his heart was not gonna take it anymore You can see this in the words "i begged my doctor for one more line, he said "son, words fail me" that Line says it all. and the Friends calling him to tell him he was crazy.. etc. Thats why the Video is a funeral. Oasis is dying ;(

I thought this song was the Mars Volta at first. The voice sounded similar. I'm not a massive fan of Oasis but the new stuff is kind of good.

I never really liked Oasis much- their only song I've liked is Live Forever. But THIS song I LOVE. It's soooo fun! - I'm ecstatic when it comes on...the guy in the video somehow reminds me of, er, Willy Wonka...?
