I agree with whats said, it's about how/what the person is feeling through as DingleberryElectron and emo bah said. The first part captures the hopelessness and emptyness the person is feeling. Heavy part is ofcourse during the suicide, maybe capturing anger, or the final struggle untill they die because the song is much heavier and the growling, just a thought. And the third part, ofcourse is them leaving to the after life, finally reaching tranquility and ofcourse all their problems are left behind.

The wall of sound during most of the heavy part (where he's actually growling) is incredibly depressing and effective. The beginning captures hopelessness perfectly. The end is the quiet, peaceful serenity after the suicide. The lyrics and theme are captured perfectly through the music, which is very rare. Transcendant art.

This song is awesome. About suicide yes, but I can see where it relates to the rest of the concept of the cd. The guy is disguted by his reflection due to his disease or actions and commits suicide because of his disgust. This song gives me a rush like many others, and it seems the part that pumps me the most is "Grant me sleep, take me under".

Before really scrutinizing the lyrics of each song and pondering the meaning of Blackwater Park as a whole I believed the album to be the corruption and eventual loss of a once respectable man, his struggle towards such a state being the story told throughout the album, leading up to his full lapse into darkness: Blackwater Park. The corruption encompasses him and spreads misery about, affecting all around him. Mind you, that was just from snippets of lyrics understood and the general atmosphere of the album. Unfortunately for my fantastic ideas and wild ideas the album seems more asunder, but that's the beauty of music: you make of it what you want. Ah, art--how I love thee passive state. Thus, I can relate to your perspective, Zions. I've oft imagined a dark play following a rough plot when listening to the album. As for a rush, I don't get much of a rush in this song. Don't take that as a derogatory statement, though--this is easily one of their most moving peices, keeping me emotional engaged the whole way through. Mikael truly is a genius.

I love this song very much.. hence my screen name and all. But I think that, although "suicide" does cover it really well, it's kind of about.. the thought process DURING the act of suicide, you know? Anyone could write a song about 'cutting yourself and dying because of blah blah' (and that's why we have emo) but this song is so much deeper, just going into the mind of the author.
