To me, this song is about depression. The 1st part goes about how you think you can get over it, but it smacks you right in the face again. ("seconds of light...Counting hours, searching the night") 2nd part is about how the depression is caused. That there is something amiss in one's life (a loss of a relative or someone close, or lack of friendship; love) That you need to talk to someone to help yourself, but can't bring yoursself about to talk because of your depression. The 3rd part of reminiscing the past; looking back as a better time. ("Inside plays a lullaby Slurred voice over children cries") The 4th part is wishing and hoping that some being beyond yourself to pick you up and help you, but you don't receive anything . You just wait. (His hand is waving a goodbye There's no response or action returned) The final part is how all of these feelings cultivate on your personality. You act this way to others, and in turn you can't get a chance to help yourself. Thus, the evil of depression. This might not be the meaning of the song, but that's how I interpret it. (prob. bec. thats how I feel) This song is so goddamn amazing.

I was reading a interview with Mikael, and he said that this album was dedicated to his grandmother(Who died in a car crash). So its probably about him being depressed about ti and sometimes seeing her ghost

This song is a bit confusing to understand for me. It is very likely the song is referring to child abuse, based on the lines "Slurred voice over children cries" and "Haunting loneliness in the eye / Skin covering a secret scar ["secret," because the child has not told anyone about it, out of fear, most likely]." On the other hand, it does seems likely the lyrics are intended to give the listener the image of a ghost. For example, line 3, "Disappears and returns again," at first glance, seems to produce the image of a ghost-like figure vanishing and reappearing; but, that line could more simply mean the figure went out of sight from the window, by kneeling down, or moving to the side, and then returned. But what makes me think this song may be about a ghost is the repeating of the word "might" in the second verse. The word seems to strip the figure of human qualities. The person viewing this figure cannot discern his intentions at all. He MIGHT be waiting for someone, be in need of talking, and so on. With those two interpretations combined, it could be about the ghost of a dead child who had been abused. I wonder if the band made any comments on the songs meaning?

I don't think it was ABOUT her. Dedicated to her, sure. But I'm pretty damn sure the song is about child abuse (physical and maybe sexual), and when I've played the song to friends, they've come to the same conclusion on their own. The first verse and the bridge seem to be describing a child, looking out the window, waiting for somebody (his father?) to come home. And when the father does come home, drunk, he assaults his child or children ("slurred voice over children's cries"), scarring them emotionally for life. "Haunting loneliness in the eye, skin covering a secret scar". This verse seems to be describing the father leaving in the morning for work or whatever, waving to his child, who doesn't return the wave, but just stares blankly out of the window. The final verse seems to be saying that the boy is Mikael and that his father mistreated him, which would be in line with "To Rid The Disease", which also seems to be about a father mistreating him. He seems to be saying that he still has bad dreams about his father's acts, and will for the rest of his life.

this song is about when mikael had went out on a pub,on the way home he saw a person looking at him from a window in an apartment, only to shortly thereafter disappear.Mikael then made a story about this and what maybe went on behind the window. Taken from an interview in sweden rock magazine a couple years ago.
