Song: Is Anybody Home?
Artist: Our Lady Peace
Album: Happiness... Is Not a Fish That You Can Catch
Tabbed by: (the exhausted) L.A.
This took me a while to tab. It has a complicated bassline, not a bunch of repeating
riffs. So I've added lyrical notations so's you can follow along. As the notes play
faster than he sings, the beginning (i.e. first letter) of the lyric is written over
or under the note that comes at the same time, but the rest of the lyric is off.
Therefore, I've put these notations on top and below to help you figure it out. It's
all in the order the song flows in, w/ all variations and such things. Listen to the
song to get exactly what I mean. Enjoy!
Notation:
= hold note
q quarter -| I'm using these sparingly, so you'll know the basic speed of the
e eighth -|- song. wherever there's a grouping like 44444444 they're sixteenth
s sixteenth -| notes and the ones around them usually. Listen to the song for
clarification. (oh yeah, and h-half note)

Surprisingly enough, that whole long outro is only about :35 seconds.
A bunch of sixteenth notes can take up alot of room. Anyhoo, questions,
comments, playful banter, and if you find something terribly wrong with
this tab, email me:
dumbassLA@users.basstabarchive.com (it's play on words) or my old address
L_A_H@hotmail.com. Makes more sense for me to revamp this if someone finds
errors with it (as I have it saved) than if you go and copy the whole thing
to make some changes.

| Thanks - I'd been looking for these lyrics for quite a while now! I reckon the building is referring to the soul of the person Raine is talking to... referenced by the church later on? | |

| This song is awesome. It not only has great lyrics but an awesome beat too. I agree that this song is basically your own personal interpretaton. Mine is that everyone is needy and dependant on material items and, therefore become lonely. But it's also saying that tears are wasted on loneliness. Pretty much that it's inevitable and there's little you can do to change it. Possibly implying suicide: Has anybody painted fear On the bedroom walls that save us from the day Is the paint possibly blood? As in death is a salvation from the lonliness. Am I way off? | |

| I think this song just focuses on the pathetic sadness of society, and how nothing seems genuine and true. Like Rebecca says, everything is messed up. You can't find meaning in the world, and you wonder if anyone else can. It seems to me as though when Raine asks if anyone is home, he wants to know if home is out there, or if everyone feels out of place and alone. But who knows, I could be totally off. This could be a song that everyone interprets in his or her own way, and that's my interpretation. | |

| Sadly, I also agree that this song implies dwelling on complete melancholy and loneliness, but almost in an upbeat way that it confuses me. I love OLP! | |

| whenever i hear this song, the end of the world sort of comes to mind. raine maida makes things sound a little chaotic. "tonight, your faith has come down to money and a TV." for some reason, i don't really feel the materialism in it. instead, it gives me a sense of not having much. "white teeth, a ticket to meet god" it's like people trying to make themselves look good so that they can go to heaven. the white teeth portraying that, and the ticket to meet god portraying the end of the world. from reading everyone's comments though, i see that it could mean the death of not the world, but the people in it. and not physically, but mentally. maybe. :) "hey, is anybody home?" and "has anybody..." those lines, i think they're both searching for comfort or reassurance that they're not alone. explosions and chaos come to mind when i hear parts of this song. stillness and slowness at others. space, too. it makes me feel nice. | |

| this song rocks. i dont know...i kind of thinks it is saying a mixture of things but just kind of a recurrant theme in OLP is that sometimes things sucks but you cant just scream and cry. You have to pick yourself up and accept them and keep going. You cant just hide from your problems. | |

| I agree that this song is about society's materialism and being unsatisfied and not knowing what to do about it. I like the line "white teeth, a ticket to meet god, be all that you envy". we do all these stupid things to find happiness, like plastic surgery, we strive for the white picket fence, and still end up with "the shot gun under your bed' that's come alive. In other words the dirty secrets an imperfections under the surface. Did that make any sense? It did in my own mind I assure you. | |

| I love this song, i listen to it and smile, i think maybe because it is just so bang on the truth it is funny. White teeth, a ticket to meet God Be all that you envy The shotgun under your bed has Started breathing You shot it, you shot it About suicide right? I love how he makes death sound like a ticket u buy to see a play. Shows, how everything revolves around 'buying' even death and meeting god. Just great. | |
