Nothing wrong with "homos" HockeyJoe. On a scale of one to lame comment... I thinks perhaps the structure of this song is important. The first and second verse seem to be from very different points of view. I was thinkning, maybe the whole song overall is about this unequal messed up relationships and you're getting each of their perspectives in each of the verses. You could even interpret the chorus to be sung from two perspectives: "If you're the only one will I never be enough? Yeah." Where the other person responds: "Hail hail the lucky ones. I refer to those in love. Yeah." saying that the second person doesn't really feel that they're in love. But who knows, that could all just be a bit of craziness.

Hail Hail was released in germany, when fans in the US finally heard this song they wondered why it was only released in gremany... eventually it became clear that Pearl Jam did not make this album to be another commercial success... Hail Hail while still a rocker was also unlike any other song they ahd ever wrote.... I love No Code...!!!

In my top three PJ songs of all time with I Got ID and Corduroy. The emotion of the lyrics coupled with one of the best riffs by Pearl Jam just make it a complete song. McCready's solo in the middle fits the song incredibly well. Just an awesome song.

Probably my facorite song ever. It's romantic, it's serious, it's cynical. Hail Hail Pearl Jam, Hail Eddie.

"Are you woman enough to be my man?" - I never got that, is it because Eddie didn't have a strong male role model?

A mate of mine thought it was a sort of dialogue spoken by a couple to each other. One line spoken, the next spoken back and so forth. It works...sort of...

"Are you woman enough to be my man?" I hate this line. I don't care what it really means or whos perspective it is from, but it just sounds weird. It sounds pretty homo coming from a guy (even if he is quoting a woman).

One Who Waits...when the writing of a song is attributed to multiple members of the band I associate that with credit being given for the musical components as well as lyrics. for example look at Smashing Pumpkins, in which case I believe Corgan and the drummer wrote much of the albulm material lyrically and musically. Anyways, remember that lyrical content is not the only portion of a song that needs 'written'

Huh. "Gossard, Vedder, Ament, McCready". I didn't know Stone solely wrote it? Anyhow, when you're in a relationship gone stale. This is an accurate account. PJ nailed it as usual.
