I agree with aicdirt27. This song was probably the highlight of Yield. It actually takes me back to the Fall of 1999. At that time I was going through "things" and I wished that I could into "hiding". I think the message is simply but brillantly articulated by Eddie...I want to have a vacation from myself. My favourite Pearl Jam song...mostly because of association with the events of 1999-2000.

one of the best Pearl Jam songs ever YIELD is a very underrated album that deserved more..id rank it right there with TEN and VS,this song will always take me back to summer-fall of 1998 when for me at least life was more simple..i know this isnt a song meaning but it is what the song means to me which I think is just as important..what the song means to a person inside

there was a canadian radio station interview back when yield was released and eddie said something to the effect of: "this isnt just about a rockstar escaping (or some such) - but in general just a person escaping the daily grind and the 'race'. taking a few days off to recuperate. like 4 days, but only 4 days, 4 weeks is unacceptable" yeah i know my memory sucks....but that was the gist of it...anyone else hear that interview? wonder where i put that tape ;)

I love this song and believe there can be many interpretations of it. Mine is that it's about state of mind evolution, and that sometimes to understand something, it takes "going into hiding" to find one's self and the simplicity of what life is really about; a full-circle evolution of the mind.

I believe this is Eddie Vedder letting all his inner feelings out in a very passionate way.

I just wish more people knew about this song because it may be one of pearl jam's best. Great guitar work and great lyrics. It just that song that you find yourself singing for days to yourself.

A fantastic song, one of the best of the Yield album. To me it means pretty much to run away from everyday life. The best album by PJ is No Coce, in my opinion

Awesome song!.. I only have this song on a live CD and i love it! when he sings it he changed the words to "I turned and blocked the hallway" instead of "i turned and walked the hallway" and he also says "I swallow the truth to keep from lying" instead of "i swallow my words to keep from lying".. Eddie is truly a genuis for writing all his awesome songs.

Eddie said somewhere in the magazine that the song is actually about God, who decides to leave his "home" somewhere and goes on Earth, as if he were an ordinary man.
