I love how you sign it "Jake Calhoun," as if you actually tabbed it yourself.

Syd barrett is the best....alot of people dont know that much about him and what he has done. And if you talk to someone and ask them about Pink floyd, they will probably tell you stuff like the wall dark side of the moon. or David Gilmore, roger waters,Richard wright or Nick Mason. But th real one behind pink floyd is Syd. I mean pink floyd wouldnt exist if he wasnt there. He's the one that named the band, hes the one who wrote the songs, and if he never was in the band, therre wouldnt be the songs wish you were here or shine on you crazy diamond and a bit of the wall. So if you ask me, Syd is the one who revolutionised rock music. Also, if you like the old pink floyd, check out syd barretts solo albums "the madcap laughs" its pretty good.anyway this song is awesome and so is pink floyd

well I remember first hearing Emily on the radio in the summer of '67 at the age of ten. Along with Status Quo's Pictures of Matchstick Men began my psychedelic mindset...actually 2 yrs later but Syd still was a huge influence on rock and my music career. I do think the song was from a "trip" in the forest with a girl. Actually if you caught the VH1 Pink Floyd documentry (actuall it was all on Syd Barrett), there is video and reference th the girl in the forest. Syd would frequently wander away to odd places while trippin and write poems and songs. He is still in recluse at his cottage, gardening and painting but rarely talks to anyone especially about his days with Floyd. Search Syd Barrett and ur find many pics, old and new, articles and more. I believe he is 60-61 now, bald and very heavy due to diabetes and other ailments. Check see emily play video on Lube .com. I believe that is Gilmore in that though, it looks like him.

I think its about childhood... a naive little girl, playing dress up (a gown that touches the ground), um the "floating on a river forever and ever" is like playing forever and not letting go of childhood. Also "soon after dark Emily crys" means (to me) a child not wanting to go to bed... i dont think this song has anything to do with drugs at all. But thats my opinion

Before "Syd" Barrett wrote this song he was in a forest and he saw a girl in the distance, and her name was Emily. That's who Emily is in this song.
