| there are a couple mistakes and/or ify parts of the lyrics of this amazing song.. this line: "standing alone my sense reeled" i thought was supposed to be "standing alone, my senses real." and whether it is "soul in tension" or "soul's intention"... idk tho, no matter what the exact meaning of the song, all i know is that it is a beautifully written song. | |

| I am going to say most people who have posted rock, but some are totally wrong. Post-waters crap? Are you kidding? Waters is totally overrated. Listen to his solo work (Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking, Radio K.A.O.S.) then listen to About Face, by David Gilmour. While Radio K.A.O.S. is a decent album, About Face shows that David Gilmour was the true musical genius behind the band. Roger Waters stole the credit. Sure, he wrote good lyrics, but look at the music. Musically, The Wall (written by Waters) is nothing compared to Dark Side of the Moon or (written largely by Gilmour) or Wish You Were Here (also written largely by Gilmour.) Gilmour brought back the old Pink Floyd, and this album is brilliant. Gilmour was a worthy successor to the Pink Floyd mantle, and Waters was an egotistical asshole. Also note: the one truly amazing song on The Wall (musically) would be Comfortably Numb, which was written by (surprise! surprise!) David Gilmour. Oh, and by the way, THIS SONG ROCKS. | |

| It *is* about Gilmour learning how to fly a plane... he's said so himself. He was scared shitless about doing it at first... but eventually he worked up the courage to give it a shot... and once he'd actually done it he thought it was one of the most amazing experiences he's ever felt. So it's about flying, but it's more about having the strength to go out and do the things you really want to do... even if you think you're doomed to failure. Just get out there and try. An incredibly uplifting, optimistic song, despite the tacky 80s production. And I think it might have also partially been written as a reference to Gilmour's newly inherited position as leader of Pink Floyd - about how he wanted to keep Pink Floyd going but he had no idea about how he was actually going to do it... the lyrics could be a metaphor for so many things... | |

| I love this song and the reason David Gilmour wrote this song is because he got his airplane license. | |

| The lone song in the post waters era... I tip my hat to Gilmour on the guitar But waters was the genius. since syd was banished waters was floyd. Now i have to watch these overage out of shape male musicians jump on stage and peddle out second rate songs, it's pathetic and unworthy of the name PINK FLOYD. This is the just about the only song (it;s the best song) in the post waters era, but that's not saying much | |
