Not sure what it means, but listen to The Chemical Brothers "Block Rockin' Beats" and Placebo's "Taste In Men".... very similar openings to this Floyd song.

The intro riff is also very similar to the intro bass line on Tool's "Forty Six & 2" Awesome song.

Seashellz's re-post has the right lyrics. For the meaning of this song, all I can do is speculate. It is an amazing song, off one of of Floyd's most amazing and underrated albums. The song seems to be about aliens (or possibly angels, or simply the combined concept) bringing revalation to the human race. The "Him" referred to may be a form of alien, angel, or perhaps saviour (I hesitate to say "God" because of its Christian implications). I do agree that "t'was Lucy in the sky" has LSD connotations. With no specualtion, it is clear that it is about revalation brought to humans. Whether by drugs, aliens, or divines, as usually Floyd has left it up to the listener to decide.
