Anybody who thinks that david gilmour can't write music is absolutely insane. Gilmour is a genious. I'm not saying that waters was not a good song writer. He wrote my favorite song, Wish You Were Here (hence, my screen name). But gilmour can definately write, and the breakup between the band gave gilmour a chance to let his creativity show.

This song is completely about waters. gimour is on his hands and knees praising him saying he has everything he could ever want just what do u want from me? should i sing until i cant sing anymore play these strings till my fingers are raw, youre so hard to please(waters) . refering back to waters having anything- you can drift u can dream even walk on water anything u want, and own anything u see. all in all hes saying y did u leave what did i do wrong and what can i do?

This song was written by David Gilmour after having a fight with his wife, Polly Samson.

very good song, Gilmour is a absolute master. I used to think like werrum as well , but division bell has really grown on me and I would rather listen to division bell or MLOR over any of Rogers solo material. Of course its not as good as there classic material, but it's still great music regardless

Werumm hit it exactly. A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell are the only two Floyd Albums I never listen to just because Waters was not with them. Roger Waters was such a creative genius that once he left, the Floyd sound transformed; you would never think it was Pink Floyd.

I think he may be talking to the fans, the people who come to see him play. He's asking all the guys "What do you want? I don't have the answer to the universe. If you want it, go ask Roger(waters). He's the genious." I think Gilmour was tired of being in the spotlight. He was at the end of his career, and was sick of the screaming fans, the concerts, the fame. He wanted to be left alone.

If you try, it is important that it is in order. beginning to end. And it could look exactly like the floyd timeline.

Another correction- "You're so hard to please" in the 1st stanza should be "I'll try my best to please" Killer song.

its about Polly. In the booklet, there a disco ball, with a ladys face in it. it could have referance to Roger however. But its definatly not about the fans or pleasing Roger.
