Let me ask this, why does being the first to do some style of playing make someone the best bassist? I guess the guy who made the first bass, or the first electric bass is probably the best then right? No. What about the guy who can play 1200 drum beats in a minute? Just because he can play the fastest doesn't make him the best drummer in the world either. Just because les doesn't play the most complex fast stuff in the world doesn't mean he can't still be the best.
